Is this the ugliest $2 1/2 Indian ever?

I usually like gold with color. I've never seen one like this though... lol. Found on ebay, and still available if you want to buy it :D

    Looks like some kinda funk got on there. I agree with @Perryhall it might clean up in acetone. But, I don’t want it near my collection. Could be contagious.

    Once it's been properly conserved there's a chance that it will straight grade. Of course it depends on what the coin looks like under all that tar or paint or whatever that crap is.

    I would be dipping that coin so fast.....Where is the barf emoji when needed?? The good news is, it will clean up nicely - true, there could be hidden issues... but I would definitely clean it up. Cheers, RickO

    This series has been very heavily counterfeited so there's a chance it isn't even real.

    I agree that it COULD clean up to be a decent coin. But I would not risk the price they are asking. The obverse has what looks like decent toning on the Indian, but all that black stuff looks like it needs to come off.

    For $50 to $100 more you can get a nice certified Indian. If you are truly interested in it for the price, I would offer the seller less for this "ugly" coin.

    Agree that it's not worth taking a chance on it unless it were priced near melt.

    I would hesitate at below melt.

    It could be contagious.

    And destroy my other coins, unless you put it into quarantine, for at least 2 weeks.

    Good point. That coin may have been in a fire and whats under that charred debris may preclude it from being straight graded. Paying anything over melt value isn't worth taking a chance on.

    The original expression from the pre-slab era was "Rip it. Dip it. Flip it. Ship it." At that time, "flip it" meant to put it in a flip. Now "flip it" means to quickly resell a coin soon after you buy it.
