Sold a bit of bullion a few weeks ago and timed it absolutely perfectly. Ignoring my 401k for a couple more decades. Bear markets are actually good at my age. I have a few coins "out there" right now for sale. I'll buy if something perfect comes along, but with less-than-average enthusiasm. I'm slightly suspicious that the people I work for may ask me to take a voluntary pay cut at some point in the near future. I'm so very grateful I saw the light a ways back ago and starting eliminating debt.
I would like to make some purchases. But better judgement has put me on lock down.....on pretty much everything except food and toiletries and fuel.
It would be safe to say the major delivery companies are very concerned about operations in the upcoming weeks. I see a huge concern here.
Luckily on the front lines in healthcare so my employment is very secure. I've been holding unless something really good comes along. Trying to buy silver, but non existent at sub $8-10 over.
Collector of Original Early Gold with beginnings in Proof Morgan collecting.
I’m on collecting pause for now. May need money for unforeseen legitimate needs. Not looking to trade or take a chance and stress of items in shipping limbo either. Purchased a low value medal ($200) from Germany on March 2 usually see 7-10 days delivery still a no show. No Big Deal. Tracking says it’s in the states but I have little expectation it will show any time soon. As always, coins just a pleasant side distraction to my major responsibilities.
Of which are my immediate family and employees. Personal channels within my industry sending virus warnings from Europe that are sobering. Mostly that the Virus takes weeks to show symptoms while it spreads within your community and also that no age group is excluded. That it’s not the flu and can be pretty hard core on your lungs. I’m not playing games with the safely of my loved ones or waiting for a gov directive and pulled the plug on my businesses yesterday. One of my crew expecting /inducing in 7 days and being told by hospital to quarantine now and after delivery. Good for him, good for all of us. Took all day to wrap it with client calls and packing up computers etc. We just had a three day weekend due to winter weather and had a plan to try to control lobby and reduce number of people in studios. First day back it was evident there is just no way to control the public traffic and basically had to close to keep the ignorant and in denial people from jeopardizing us. I have been grappling with the timing of this pending decision and with the encouragement of others in my field across the country doing the same, I wake up today mostly feeling it was the right call. We feel it sets a good example and one small precedence in my city, which is mostly going about life like normal although we’re getting legit reports of local exposure.
Made it abundantly clear to my parents they should stay put based on what we know at this time. There is nothing they need worth the unnecessary risk. Why go out and take one last whiff of this until we know more. Not to be overly alert guy, it’s just my responsibility to be calling these shots and thankful I have the full support of my wife and crew around me.
I still feel that coins can be a good pastime while hanging at the house, but they just aren’t that high on my list of critical topics. Kids are home from school a week now, had a most excellent nerf battle with my son last night. Happiest I’ve seen him all month. He turns 11 in a week and bummed his party is basically cancelled, not his birthday I told him.
Look, these inanimate objects have made it through a lot of history and will sit this out just fine. It’s you people I want to see in the right side of the statistics. Health now, then we can worry about the economic fallout after we pick up the pieces. I feel that when people sign off with “Stay Safe!’ This is what it looks like.
I am on old man lockdown.
Sold all stock about 10 days ago.
Holding coins.
I have been considering buying gold coins in TPG holder at spot if I can find them.
Buying on hold for now with exception of biting the bullet on a high end Roosie that will upgrade my registry set. Rare date m/m that doesn't come along everyday. Wifey is a nurse in elective surgery. She's home until this is over. I am a 911 paramedic, hi risk for exposure. Keeping everything close to the vest. ISOLATE PEOPLE.

If I get one, I will use it to pay for a chunk of a nice, plated Chapman or Elder catalog. $1K or $2K will not buy a truly interesting U.S. coin, in my experience.

Buying! Cherry picking only. The other day, got to peak through approx. 50 different potential Proof sets containing varieties. I couldn't believe I still came up empty? Did appreciate the owner allowing me to search though.

Buying if it's right. Selling for same. Holding the rest.
I know some folks on the FB groups are selling due to unemployment, etc. If I can be an additional buyer and provide liquidity--at their fair prices for offering--then I'm glad to help as long as I'm able.
Otherwise, just sitting tight as nothing else is really available now, with LCS closed or by appointment only, auctions postponed, and estate sales cancelled.
GSAs, OBW rolls, Seated, Walkers. Anything old and Colorado-focused, CO nationals.
Yes, I have bought in the last two weeks including yesterday. I'm just a collector though, so likely my buying will decrease accordingly with the ongoing progression of this mess.
I need to change my status from cautiously optimistic to lockdown hold.
The PA governor just mandated that all non-life-essential business must close.
That includes our extremely busy land surveying office.
The list is massive and must include 80% of businesses in my rough estimate.
That's an enforceable mandate, not a suggestion.

Hmmm, Unless you are surveying small lots in the city...that doesn't make sense. Too wide of a blanket?

He cast a wide net.
We're rural surveyors. Generally very large tracts in the middle of nowhere.
Also half of our business is natural gas related construction stakeout, topo surveys and well plat mapping.
The list of the type of businesses that are to stop is incredible.

I’m sitting chilly right now. Spending most of my time stopping investment bleeding — mostly successful — and looking for the bottom — we ain’t there yet, IMHO.

Buying, just not coins, ammo and maybe a Ruger SR1911 9mm Commander this weekend, to add to the arsenal.

This individual is a genius and knows what’s up. Time to buy low low low. Oh if I only had more cash to play with.... 😢

Quite a variety of responses so far.
Very interesting to read them.
Definitely not in the mood to buy with the investment portfolio where it is.

Yes but in a shaky situation like we all are in, how do you determine the real bottom?
We may not even be close.
I was buying a month ago. Why not now?
Will keep buying, but more selectively these days.
Buying, but only gold bullion coins. Nothing numismatic right now, but that could change if I see something priced to move.

I’m in a holding pattern. Not buying, not selling, just sitting and watching. This is unprecedented to me and I think everyone else.
Yes to all three. Holding my bullion, buying and selling Morgans.
Not sure if this is a sign of the times or just a lucky break but I picked this up on ebay last night for what I consider a steal:

Visit the Society of US Pattern Collectors at USPatterns.com.
Only buy if it's affordable and reasonable and something I really want.
Buying: I need to rent a truck big enough to haul the amount of 90% & pm I’ve bought.
Selling: Just a small USPS box w/pre printed label from the buyer was enough.
Buying if it's right. Selling for same. Holding the rest.

Gonna get me a $50 Octagonal someday. Some. Day.
Willing and able to buy, but, it would need to be a very special coin, or a very special price.

What you have, you own.
What you want, isn't available.
What you want to sell, nobody wants.
I am not interested in selling hardly anything out of my two core series and one supplemental.
I would prefer to get rid of practically everything else but it isn't worth the effort and the money would make no difference.
I don't think very many will.
