    You could find WL halves in circulation; chop marked trade dollars were all considered to be culls and a mercury dime was not graded "Fine" unless all the vertical lines in the fasces were present.

    I don't know how many cows dad had to milk but once a month we would go to town, dad would give my brother and I $1.00 each. We would spend it at the local drug store for a hamburger, fries, coke and a comic book. Of course the coke was a fountain drink. :D

    How excited I was when I was 15 working at a convenient store and the cashier had 5 40% JFKs and I got them for face value after calling my mom to bring me $2.50 to swap them out. That was in the later 1980s so it was very exciting.

    There were no third-party graders, so you had to be careful, when buying BU coins, as to make sure that they weren’t polished, AU sliders!!

    Speedway on Chelmsford Street in my hometown; 15.9¢ per gallon...ahhhh good times. I could fill my Road Runner for less than $5 when it was bone dry.

    In 1964 Kingsport, TN gas was 21 cents/gallon(gas wars every weekend), cigarettes in a machine were a quarter with 3 cents taped to each pack and all the matchbooks you would ever need lying in the bottom of the machine and on the ground. I had a 1963 Morris Minor that got 48mpg. Johnny and I would fill it up(7 gallons) buy each of us a pack of cigarettes and a pop all for under $2 which we had just received for soda bottles we scavenged from along side the road at the football field and drive all weekend when not working. Friday night game, Saturday morning collection. Only one coin shop in town, went there every Saturday. Lady who ran it seemed to be a witch, but 30 years later she was a good friend. Thanks for the memories.

    I used to go to the corner store and buy cigarettes' (Camels unfiltered) and the Italian newspaper (Il Progresso) for my dad and I would get to keep the change (as long as I handed back to him first).
