Anyone have experience with AU58+ grades? Why not MS60 or MS61?
This one is Pop 1 in 58+.

NGC pictures. Coin was just graded today.

Not to be facetious, but in answer to “why not 60 or 61?”, the coin looks to have light wear.

Great looking coin! I've always hoped for a + grade, never gotten one.

I would think 58+ would be more attractive than a 60. Especially on future sale...

Light rub but the plus reflects several other exceptional feature

I would think that an AU58+ would look like a MS63 or better except for a trace of very light wear.

Nice AU58 coins can have much better eye appeal than lower MS coins in my experience (particularly gold).

A nice coin but it does have wear that is obvious. I personally don't like the use of + grades.

    Why not 59?
    Not joking.

Or how about a 55 with cacs?

As Double Eagles with wear go that coin is surprisingly mark free.

It looks like a very nice coin. I’m not sure the same can be said of very many MS60 double eagles!

It's hard to price grades like that that usually have tremendous eye appeal, star grades too.

I really like a great boarder line slider 58

+1. AU59 could be for coins that would have been MS65 or better, but for that slight trace of wear.

Jc, you should be very happy, 58’s are a great grade....58+ even better....many will like that better than most 60 or 61’s

That is a very nice $20 gold coin.... I consider plus marks and stars just splitting hairs in a grade...I know they are good for value/sales, but I just collect coins... and I like nice coins. ;) Cheers, RickO
