Does this mean the Mint's quality control is falling short 38.2% of the time? It seems like in a perfect world, they should all be 70s.

No, this just means the US Mint should hire the graders at PCGS. IMHO.

I'm counting 6355 total graded 2019 s Enhanced Silver eagles at NGC as of today. That would make a total of 11,502 graded coins from the top 2 services. About 38 percent of the mintage has been put into plastic by the two top grading companies..

That tells me a PR70 graded by PCGS has more collector value than a 70 from our friends across the street.

I totally agree with you about PCGS being of more value.

    Just checked ANACS. They've graded 4 ERP's : two 69's and two 70's. Busy over there...NOT.

Of note, if you take the PR70's that have no provenance or fancy labels, the percentage of 70's is 51.5%.

That certainly evens the playing field.

Anyone know the percentage for NGC 70's that have no provenance?

There are 44 different Proof silver eagles in a complete PCGS Proof Silver Eagle Registry set.

There are now already 11 of them that have LOWER populations in PR70 than this coin.

I'm not sure that is anything but a statistical anomaly. There is little point in slabbing most common date proof silver eagles.

    edited to add:

Just for fun, I looked at wheat cents. There are almost 3x as many 1909 S-VDB's slabbed as 1909-S coins and 5x as many S-VDB's slabbed as 1909 plain. And there are about 7x as many 1914-D coins slabbed as 1914-P

    Here's a fun comparison: There are 2443 RED 1909 S-VDB in PCGS plastic and only 183 1923 BROWN. ;)

Quite possibly. After all, a 68 could have been a 70 that fell out of its capsule in shipping. In that case, your beef is with FedEX or USPS, not the Mint. In general, modern proofs are made to a 69 standard which is why you see so few 68s or lower.

We’ve had enough time now for the “hopefuls” to resubmit in whatever form they are choosing.

Well know sooner, rather than later, when totals exceed mintage (since it’s a low mintage) if that is the case but, of course, we’ll never know actual numbers.

Don't bet on it. Look at the price drop for Pf 70 DCam Ikes. PCGS graded so many with less contrast that the few NGC coins available (which are closer to true 70's) rarely enter the market.
This explains how those graded Pf 69 Star Ultra Cameo would seem to be the ultimate coins.

These are back down around to $2,000 in PCGS 70 with TrueView and graded certs now. Will they be closer to $1,500 next month, or still $2,000+?

I vote $1,500. I think there are Just too many 70's and probably just not that many collectors who want to pay $2,000 to have this one ounce of modern silver. Honestly $1,500 for a single coin is on the high side for many, if not most, modern coin collectors. It was still quite a fun and crazy story for a while. LOL
