Probably not a big surprise since they are all 1st strike

Actually, it woudn't matter if 100% are 70s. You don't collect modern Mint products because of condition rarities.

what's that one labeled COA 00002?

“How many were submitted "70 only"?”

Exactly. No one should be terribly surprised or disappointed when 1 out of 3 of their fresh coins grades 70. I believe they should be very happy if 2 actually make it!

    Just my 2 cents.

Interesting only 12 graded 70 for the 2019-W $1 Silver Eagle Enhanced Rev PR Pride of Two Nations (Proof). Maybe I should send mine in?

  • GluggoGluggo Posts: 3,566 ✭✭✭✭✭

    Serious question?
How does one get a Baltimore Labeled Coin?

    A more Unserious question
How does one get one of these other labels?
Are they selling them for the Mint’s price of $69.95 + Label fees? :o

Can you sue the mint for not selling you a 70? Is it false advertising lol any other product gets sent back if defective? This seems to easy for bad actors to dictate the costs ?

Defective? They advertise it as a silver dollar, which it is. They never describe it as a perfect condition silver dollar, do they?

So then why do we have grades?

Huh? For the very reason that they are not guaranteed perfect. We have grades so we can see which ARE, and which aren't, lol.

The naked eye cannot distinguish a 70 from a 69. Crack out a 70 it may come back 69, crack out a 69 it may come back a 70. Paying silly money for a 70 is, well flat out silly :)

Looking to answer an IG post, 54.4% of the NGC coins are one of the two Mercanti hand-signed labels and the IG post shows -072 as the line# of the invoice. So SOMEBODY certified a large batch of RP coins.

The direct link to the pop report is https://www.ngccoin.com/census/united-states/american-eagles-and-bullion-coins/76/varieties/712479/

Does this mean the Mint's quality control is falling short 38.2% of the time? It seems like in a perfect world, they should all be 70s.

given the overwhelming number of 70's it is logical(to me, at least) that there should be no premium for that grade, it should have some baseline price with all non-70's discounted accordingly. I know the hype won't follow that line and the "flippers" will tout the "perfect 70" grade for a premium, but a buyer shouldn't pay it.

I'm wondering if our hosts are being a bit generous with the 70's, so as to dilute the rarity factor.

Just being a conspiracy theorist here. ;)

Some 69's I have seen have some milky haze on the lower proof stripes or folds in the fabric.

PCGS is not being "generous". They are doing very well and getting paid a lot, to grade several thousand of these as accurately as usual.

Agree with above that 70 premium will start dropping fast. I am staying with my old prediction of under $2,000 for 70's after Christmas. There are just way too many being graded and for sale soon vs serious buyers.

  • I think the mint just came out with alot of very nice coins. Compared to that other grading company our hosts are being stingy with 70's...lol. 65% are 70's where the other company is grading 85% at 70.

Let’s face it, a NGC 70 is basically a PCGS 69. In moderns. Yes, there will be occasional outliers.
This topic has been heavily discussed regarding the difference in expectations in grading a 70 between the two.

  • Pretty lame they didn't offer any of the special labels to the regular joes. They could have made a few extra coin as i would have probably ordered one. The lopsided 70 vs 69 numbers dealers are getting for FDOI are a bit odd too. Way out of proportion compared to the FS numbers.

There are already around 10 times more 70's of these 2019S ERP's graded, than the 1995W.

Yeah. I don't see this coin cratering in price. But I also don't imagine the 70 premium we are currently seeing can hold up.

The price will not drop fast, but it will drop. Just saw a thousand of the 5,000+ NGC graded 70's hit the market and $2,000 may be on the high side after Christmas.

I see the drop in price of these 70's as a bit like ice. It seems to melt a bit slow at first, and the next thing you know it is all gone.

That tells me a PR70 graded by PCGS has more collector value than a 70 from our friends across the street.

That has been the normal assumption for most people I think who have looked at the sales charts for most sold graded coins for a while. Always exceptions. I personally only want to have PCGS for my sets and have had maybe 60% of the other slabs convert out of dozens,, so that implies a higher quality standard at least to me...
