Is this 1936-D Quarter an error coin? I'm confused?

Hi Folks,
Happy New Year!!

I just came across this coin in a bunch of change I've been collecting for a while. The mint-mark looks weird.

Has anyone seen this before? Is it an error? Does it have any value?

    Damage from heavy wear. No special premium. A very beat up looking specimen.

    What would you say is the overall grade approximately for the coin? VF?

    Because it is a 36-D someone is out there who will pay a premium for it. How much ? It also has silver content value.

    I would grade the coin as Fine Details, cleaned, excessive marks. It is a coin I would personally not buy or make an offer on.

    I don't think it will be a fine, looking at the obverse. The reverse is beat up as well

    Something has hit that D pushing metal aside, not an error. Silver value but sure fun to look at and take pics of, 'eh?

    The mint mark may have some significant strike doubling going on (which does not add any value to the coin and is fairly common on D mint Washington silver quarters).

    Some of us have a special jar for coins like that. Not the regular jar, mind you, since it is silver, but a jar just the same. ;)

    90% silver typically gets stuffed in an old wool sock, mind you.

    The one shown here, I would attempt to trade to somebody filling an album by date and mint. I would would ask four or five average date silver quarters for this one. Might get it.

    Silver content value....too beat up for collector value...damage to the mint mark. Cheers, RickO
