Let’s give Brett a Year End Report

Positive - Incorporating PCGS/CAC Sets into the PCGS Set Registry

Needing Improvement - Making the PCGS
Members Only Shows more friendly
for collectors to submit coins and get their grades back expeditiously. Presently it is
impossible for collectors to submit coins at these events and get grades back in a day without paying $300 a coin . These shows
need some serious improvements.

Brett is a man of his words. He said he would looked into slabbing Dan Carr 's product. And one had been graded by PCGS not too long ago.

Mr. Charville is very innovative, and is not satisfied with the status quo. I see very good times and improvements during his career at PCGS.

He is also a good communicator and very tolerant with forum members. Giving second chances to many banned members who were never given the chance before.

In my opinion, oustanding job performance by Mr. Charville.

Great job by PCGS on grading the William Sphon Baker collection of Washingtonia. There were a number of pieces in there I wasn't sure if PCGS would grade, but grading more exonumia is always a plus for me :)

Turnaround times have been pretty good this year and the grades have been pretty accurate from the handful of submissions I have had this year.

I think an annual Q&A with Brett or Heather would be good way to communicate. Hear a little about members/dealers concerns/issues and to also hear what PCGS is working on these days. Many of the users here are the end user of the PCGS product and can provide valuable (and free) insight.

Overall PCGS is still the strongest grading service. I finally sent in my own coins for grading and got higher grades than I was expecting.

I see it doing two things this year that can compromise that. I think the dealer advertising and cross promotions weaken the image of impartiality of PCGS. I think the most important thing for a grading service is to appear neutral and immune to outside influences. I know it was started by and run by dealers, so the line is fuzzy. I know these advertising activities bring revenue too. But that kind of stuff can risk undermining the core thing that makes PCGS valuable to people, in image or reality.

The other negative is the addition of CAC to the registry. I personally already felt like there were too many sets to participate in, and the addition of that many more just further spreads out the collectors. I felt like the US Mint has suffered from giving collectors too many options. PCGS is very influential and is always directly and indirectly telling people what is important and worth collecting. I'm not sure I like what they are "saying" with some of those changes, even if it does validate and satisfy a portion of the community and customer base.

I also think that appointing a numismatics education and outreach coordinator was a great move, and has the potential to jumpstart some good things. It may take a while before it does, and I ask that Brett stick with it.

Please restore CoinFacts . A growing resource for all. Feel free to charge.

Get rid of the "Saved Draft" forum feature. It's annoying.

Also I don't want CAC appearing next to my coins in "My Inventory".

Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.

Will there be a New Year’s Day Q &A again this year?

Q: When does a collector become a numismatist?

A: The year they spend more on their library than their coin collection.

A numismatist is judged more on the content of their library than the content of their cabinet.

While CoinFacts was lessened in that it came with alot less images than before, it has improved with more images over the past year. Please keep adding more images where possible, especially for the circulated grades. Otherwise I think the new team is going in the right direction and am impressed with the new way of thinking. Customer service has been excellent.
