Buffalo Cracked a coin got it back details damage

Was this just an oversight or was this kind of damage excepted in the past?

Guess I should clarify I don’t disagree with the new grade there are marks across the tail also its circular the obverse is clean it’s just shadow of tones I believe this was the end roll coin and got damage by the fingers on the wrapper machine beautiful colors but it’s damaged I just wanted to share that even thought a coins in a older holder there can be problems you need to
Look for.

There was quite a bit of discussion from the other thread about cracking coins. I cracked this coin and sent it in with my raw coin Submission so I didn’t have to make multiple submissions. I wasn’t expecting an up grade just wanted to get true views and new holder. If you look close the damage is in the same place but wasn’t caught the first time around and I didn’t see it when I purchased it. So if you decide to crack an older holder out and re-submit be wear.
Looks at the letter N on the reverse got it back UNC damage wrap machine damage.
I’m devastated because I love the tone on the reverse. I regret cracking it but would have felt worse not knowing had I re-sold the coin at some point and not knowing it was damaged.

I hate to see a rattler go away. But I really like rattlers. I have been known to pay a little more for one. Maybe not a good idea, but I can’t help it.

Interesting as many people would like to keep the old, rattler holder. You do know that PCGS will take TrueViews in holders, so you don't have to lose old holders like rattlers right?

Looks like something that should be factored into the grade rather than labeled as damage.
Just my worthless opinion.

Not super easy to see from the photos but I think you got a raw deal. Looks too small to be called damage to me.

It looks like rubber wheel marks mostly horizontal across the bust. Right across the center of his head and onto his face.

Am I wrong or is that something else?

Looks like it goes all the way across to the D at varying depths. But again, look at the Indian's bust. I'm curious about opinions on that.

Yep... there certainly is some damage there... worst on the N..... but visible on several of the other letters as well...Probably easy to miss in the old slab...but obvious when raw and examined with good lighting... Cheers, RickO

I've seen worse on other straight graded PCGS slabbed coins. Apparently it wasn't bad enough to keep the original PCGS graders from straight grading it when they put it in the original rattler holder.

If you have other scuffed holders, Meguiar's Scratch X 2.0. a microfiber cloth and some elbow grease will eliminate
fine lines and scuffs.

Still a good looking coin.

I have seen a lot of wrapping machine damage to coins it is ashamed but it happens quite often.

But who wants to look at their coin when it is sloppily rotated so the Indian looks like he is laying down? Same goes for someone who has slabbed his 1916/1916 doubled die obverse as dateless,. I would want the date to show, even if it was just
acid treated. Sooner or later (most) all the dateless 1916 ddo's wind up being acid treated. Bet more ofter than now when
a nice rattler changes ownership the new owner gets it reholdered.

Doesn’t matter how small wheel damage is, it’ll be details graded every time.
