Looks like it had an acid bath, perhaps hydrochloric?

    Love the 1885-CC Morgan

Definitely PMD.... Not an error....Nothing in the mint process could produce those issues... Cheers, RickO

If it was easy to make a big score searching change, all of us would be sitting in the Caribbean sipping rum drinks with little umbrellas in them :D

The best advice is to spend time learning about the minting process. The more you know, the easier it will be to recognize the damaged dreck. Even minor errors aren't that common, and finding anything worth more than a buck.....well, let's just say it doesn't happen very often.

Hopefully, you haven't been watching those "Get Rich from Pocket Change" youtube junk. Once you learn more about coins, those are the things that will truly make you want to cry.

Welcome aboard. If you want to learn about numismatics, you're in the right place. If you're just hoping to find easy money, then you've picked the wrong hobby.

    Hope this helps

    Absolutely true! +1,000.

In fifty+ years time, I haven't made twenty dollars sifting through bronze cons from pocket change.

All the pocket change gains have come from War Nickels and 90% silver. Those gains have been slim, but more than zero.

Definitely not worth crying about. :)

With anything new, it will take some time to learn numismatics and the minting process. If coins and/or history interest you, then it will be a worthwhile endeavor. There is a lot to learn, but don’t be discouraged. Many members have been doing this for decades. I started collecting as a kid in the 70’s but I still regularly learn new things on forums like this.

Local common club guy used to look at hundreds of thousands of coins per year. One year he actually challenged himself to search a million. He found numerous minor varieties. But he never made any money at it.

It would be easier to make money breeding unicorns.

I'm also told there is a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow.

Make sure you get rid of it cause if it ends up back in circulation someone will find it and post it here as an error. :#

This thread is over a year old, this coin has likely already been shown here as an error twice now since the first post. :D

I guess that was my fault for resurrecting it. Sorry!
