The coin is only a strong MS-63 or weak 64 and the reverse is consistent with that. Some might disagree, but the dulling on the reverse is consistent with a 140 year old coin with original surfaces.
Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?
If PCGS graded it lower than 63 I think you could say that "Yes" it was effected by the reverse. "Should" it have been? That is where the discussion would start. 79-O was the first Morgan I looked for after reading Mr Bowers Red Book on Morgans way back when. Super tough date. I personally like this coin and the contrast. I can see why others may not though. When do we get the grade reveal?

I personally like the album toning. To me it frames the coin. I wish the reverse mimicked the obverse.
That's a nice strike for the date!
If “Doe”, how much.
About a “Buck”. 🤪

64, personally I would of dipped out the nasty on the obverse before sending her in. Congrats!
The whole worlds off its rocker, buy Gold™.

Wooooha! Did someone just say it's officially "TACO™" Tuesday????
Being a 63/64 coin, I would say the reverse does not really impact the grade....Cheers, RickO

I think you did well! Congrats on a really interesting 79-O!
No, not anymore than the OBV. A 64 is on the generous side overall.
