CAC Worthy?

What is your opinion whether this 1855 C is CAC worthy or not. The Charlotte Mint is known for weak strikes during this time.

The assigned grade is extremely relevant in such an exercise. Additionally, it’s difficult to get a good look at the surfaces, due to the brightness of the images.

Is the strike doubling extreme here?

It looks AU55 or better to me, so I’d try it, if there are no issues being masked by the images.

There’s a good chance it’s already been tried, of course. Where & how you acquired it will make this more or less likely.
You'll never know for sure unless you send it in...to follow up on MFeld's point it is very difficult to access without seeing the coin in hand...
In his recent article on gold coins and CAC, DW said:
"I find CAC’s understanding of the vicissitudes of luster to be their strongest point in analyzing a specific coin. CAC will reject a coin for having inferior luster for the assigned grade and this means that they are especially hard on coins grading AU58 through MS62."
What DW fails to mention is that there is often NO DIFFERENCE between the two grades at the major TPGS's. This is because long ago the standards for Mint State were changed. Usually, a gold coin needs to have very obvious friction wear to be downgraded as an AU.
IMO, If the strike on the reverse would have been better, this coin may have reached the VALUE of an MS coin and received the grade. I don't see a downside of trying for a sticker.

If I am understanding correctly you're saying that there is no difference between AU58 and MS62 at major TPG's?

I don’t think it will pass because of the weak reverse strike. Only ~10% of old gold coins pass at CAC. If it was my coin I would send it to CAC. You never do know and it’s impossible to really tell from pictures especially on such a small coin.
