Heather is a stickler for simplicity. As such, we only have seven forum rules. Some other boards I've been on, in this hobby and elsewhere, have a list of rules, terms, and conditions so long that you'd need a team of lawyers to determine if you're allowed to even post.
I've been imploring Heather to let me add more rules, but she won't let me. This is her forum, I just work here. So below I'm working on my own list of unwritten rules:
Remind her this is the U.S. and freedom of speech is a basic right here.
"Freedom of Speech" is the most misunderstood freedom there is. Freedom of speech means the GOVERNMENT cannot sanction you for statements made. [Clear and present danger excepted.] There is NO SUCH THING as freedom of speech in a private space such as this forum. If PCGS chooses to ban anyone who uses the word "the", they have that right and it does not violate "freedom of speech".
Pardon me, you just posted that to add 24 agrees to your count, come on just admit it.

Clearly, you don't know my reputation around here. I couldn't get 24 agrees if I observed that the sky was blue.

I know I probably speak for the minority, or at least the minority who aren't afraid to admit as much, but this forum was more fun and attractive in years past when it had more of a wild-west feel to it. now it borders on lame some days.
Real shame that so many of the real experts in the hobby no longer participate here.
I miss Roger, but it was his own fault. They put him in time out for a couple weeks. He was back for mere HOURS and he went on another rant and got banned. If he had bitten his tongue for a while, he'd probably still be here today.

Sometimes I miss the chaos. But, honestly, it's not the chaotic fun that got people banned. Heck @insider2 and myself are still here despite being in the middle of a few brouhahas ourselves. The problem is that people don't seem to understand where the lines are and so some people got themselves banned and others are afraid to comment.
There are all kinds of OT threads and people poking fun at each other. You just need to avoid the red button issues:
1. Don't bite the hand that feeds. You can question PCGS grades. You can discuss PCGS policies. You cannot spin conspiracy theories that make PCGS some kind of monster corporation.
2. Don't throw politics into the mix.
3. Don't make libelous statements about any corporate entity.
Real shame that so many of the real experts in the hobby no longer participate here.............................The problem is that people don't seem to understand where the lines are.
here's what I think: we are no longer free or allowed to speak about negative aspects of the Hobby and the way that PCGS may be a part, in any way at all, of anything that isn't positive.
believe me, PCGS has been around for quite awhile and in large part revolutionized the way we collect while pushing the Hobby to levels that never existed probably in any of our wildest dreams. they have led the changes for the most part --- but --- they have made their fair share of mistakes and errors in judgement during that time. the difference between now and the past is, that for reasons I don't fully comprehend, PCGS doesn't want any negative publicity whatsoever.
that's OK, but it tends to relegate participation here to being rather Vanilla for me.

I half agree. There are limits to how you criticize PCGS (or any corporate entity), but it is not a blanket ban. Look at the original thread with the PCGS slabbed Seated Dollar. There was an open discussion about the grading of that coin. There was a lot of drama. The mods eventually closed the thread but never deleted it or banned anyone.

I still remember the massive “layoffs” prior to Heather’s arrival. She was instrumental in getting many back into the fold and doing a lot of behind the scene work in recovering and merging multiple accounts that some had.
Real shame that so many of the real experts in the hobby no longer participate here.

Are you sure you are not confusing Roger with some other bannee? I asked him about this and he said that he has not posted anything on here since mid-August. He went straight from Suspended to Banned without posting anything, much less a rant.
Do you have a screencap of the alleged rant? Is it possible that somebody hacked his CU account and posted said rant just to get him banned? He says he did not post any such rant, and I believe him.

This forum has a long history of inconsistent rules and sweeps of mass bannings. In the time I have been here I have worked hard to create clear, easy to follow rules and guidelines that allow open discussion, even when a little off-topic, so long as it does not negatively impact any person or entity. I give warnings and have thankfully not had to take my ban hammer out frequently. But sometimes I do. And sometimes, the person on the receiving end has friends. The fact of the matter is, the friends of the banned will only ever receive one side of the story. We are not in the habit of airing dirty laundry.

I believe it had more to do with his criticism of the 1942 "high relief" cent post? If I recall correctly; Roger wasn't convinced proper protocol was followed in regards to the determination that the cent was truly "high relief." I remember he criticized host for what he felt was a hasty determination as PCGS certified coin. He was very critical, and I figured that is what got him banned.
It's too bad; Roger is at the top of the list for his contributions through literature and discussion, and he's done much for the hobby. However; there are lines drawn for this forum, along with others....

I cannot image any member of CU that can find fault with the way you have run the forums. Thankfully, It appears you realize that the sign of real power is clemency. I hope you manage to keep a wall between the written rules and anything else.

Perhaps he meant our resident psychiatrist @ColonelJessup who appears to have been placed in a sound proof cell?
