Here are are some additions from this past week, the first of which were taken on Friday.

Friday and Saturday was in Sapporo, Japan on the northern island of Hokkaido, The Fall leaves have begun to turn color there. Pictured locations are on the temple grounds there and on the campus of Hokkaido University.

Pictured below are photos taken earlier in the week at Japan's Lake Towada on northern Honshu.

Finally, here are a few I took earlier today of this weekend"s typhoon flooding as seen from one of the first Shinkansen bullet trains that was able to resume service between Hokkaido and Tokyo.

I've shown this to everyone, so I guess I'll go ahead and show it here. The roaches in my kitchen have made themselves at home, and they are quite bold. I snapped this picture the other night of a roach eating dinner in my kitchen . You can clearly see he is enjoying a meal at his little table...

Get some Boric acid and put it inside the corners of the cabinets, next to the floor boards, etc. You won't have so many mouths to feed.

Now just look at this, the roaches in my kitchen are so ungrateful. They are not satisfied with the types of food we buy from the grocery store. They have started their own complaint department.

FWIW here is an added view I captured of the flooding and an update:

Nagano, the prefecture next to where we are volunteer teaching at Mikuni Intermational College was one of the hardest hit. Latest death toll is at 72 with rescue efforts continuing. Levees on 47 rivers broke and there were over 140 landslides. 14,000 homes were either submerged, destroyed or severely damaged. 20,000 households are still without electricity and an even greater number without running water. 5,000 still remain in evacuation centers.

I visited LIGO Hanford this last weekend.
Big thrill for me.

On display was a copy of the Nobel Prize for Physics 2017 Medal.

This is a copy of the Medal awarded Ray Weiss who shared the the 2107 Prize with his colleagues Kip Thorn and Barry Barrish.

The Observatory Head and my tour guide Dr. Michael Landry told me that a Nobel Prize winner can have up to 3 copies struck.
This one has a place of honor at the visitor’s center at LIGO Hanford.

Much information on this astounding scientific project is available online.

I’ll just mention that the gravitational waves which were predicted by Einstein pass through the earth and are detected in Italy, Louisiana, and Washington State milliseconds apart. Two laser beams racing back and forth inside the one trillionth of atmosphere vacuum of the 2 ½ mile arms arrive out of phase by 1/10,000 the width of a proton or, as Dr. Landry explained it, in the 4 light year distance from Earth to Proxima Centauri the measurement would be a human hair width.
