What holder are they in? Did you request for them to be crossed over? I think they only cross over NGC, ANACS and ICG.

  • Options

    Harshly cleaned.

    Yes, they have been cleaned.

PCGS will not unholder any coin unless it is submitted as a crossover which will allow you to define the minimum grade acceptable for the cross. If you submitted in a holder that they will not cross, they expect you to crack it out of the holder and submit it RAW.

  • Options

was submitted as a cross over at any grade. returned to me. All it said was damaged. Ok how is it damaged.

  • Options

another one returned unholdered as a crossover

  • Options

    last one returned unholdered

  • Options

    Couple of questions;
    1. What holder are they in at the moment
    2. What is the grade given on that holder
    3. Is there any notations on the present holder (like cleaned, etc).
    4. Can you provide clear pictures? Your's are really difficult to use for diagnostic purposes.

original slab is from a generic grader. No indication on original slab of cleaning or damage. Just a straight grade. I will redo pictures of the one returned damaged .

I think this is a troll thread. OP refuses to post flips with the reason they didn't cross or make the submission public so codes could be viewed.

    retake of 1901 damaged

Here is what I’m guessing to be the initial thread about the submission: https://forums.collectors.com/discussion/1025793/have-a-question-about-grading-of-coins-at-pcgs#latest

If so, someone from PCGS already provided contact information so that the OP could get his questions answered.

The issue here is buying problem coins at what was probably a “good coin” price. There’s no issue with buying cleaned Morgans at cull prices..... but if you knowingly did that, you obviously wouldn’t submit those for grading. Submitting junk to TPGs can be an overly expensive way to identify holes in your numismatic knowledge. Been there, done that.

    Good point.

Did you see his previous thread that I linked? If so, do you still doubt that he submitted the coins to PCGS? I find his story credible, though his submission, ill-advised.

@MFeld Did not see another thread. Will go look.

  • Options

well I can assure you I submitted them to pcgs. not that it matters but I bought these at bulk rate and they looked like possible candidates for a grade. Some others got graded but these didn't. I also will take advice given here and get opinion of a more experienced collector.

There is a check box “do not holder genuine” was it checked?

So, what is the mystery? They are labeled "cleaned", "cleaned" and "damaged".

If the coins were submitted in the holders of other grading companies that aren’t accepted by PCGS, wouldn’t that option and any others be a moot point?

    All this discourse over BB's????

  • Options

I am just throwing it out there but did they charge you? I can totally see them just sending them back, providing you with the feedback and not holdering/charging you. I know that JA has done that with CAC

I couldn’t think of any other scenario where PCGS actually returned the coins with a grade designation in the flips as shown while still not holdering the coins. If the issue was the Tpg which originally graded then I would have thought that the coins would be returned without an opinion.

"Some others got graded but these didn't."

This is what you need to focus on. ;)

Still no disclosure of the "TPG" that slabbed the coins or the grade on that holder. You are wasting our time.

Someone said it right. I am clumsily trying to figure out how to get better educated about these coins. I realize most of you guys can smell a cleaned coin, well im not to that point yet. I actually held some back because I did recognize cleaning or damage. I see the cleaning on these coins but he 1901 that came back damaged still has me perplexed. Yes I see the gouges
but I have seen a lot worse on coins that graded. Apologize for such simple questions but you don't know what you don't know. I will call pcgs and find out exactly what the damage is but just trying to figure it out myself. I also submitted coins from the same tpg that got graded. I did not check do not reholder box.

CAC does that. PCGS does not. Nor should they. You paid for an opinion. You got an opinion.

Pointless to mention this as anyone can call them selves a grading company. The tpg is uscg which is united states coin grading.

Why are all of the images cropped to cut off the top part of the holder? I see part of a hologram in one of the pics.

What difference does that make with respect to his question about one of the coins being deemed “Damaged” and trying to get better at identifying cleaned coins?

And you always will. That's why having a local dealer screen or even posting them here. We could have easily told you not to bother submitting.

USCG is not eligible for crossover. That said doesn't seem right that you were charged grading fees for coins that were not eligible to cross in the first place

@Larrob37 "I will call pcgs and find out exactly what the damage is"

Someone from PCGS reached out to you in your other thread and offered to help. Contact me at: sfeltner@collectors.com

You might get a better answer from someone wanting to help you learn & understand than from whoever you might get on the phone.
