That’s a beauty! Sadly, I cannot contribute since I do not own a 1 dollar gold piece.
Here's one from my collection...

PCGS MS67+ w/CAC

Here’s Type 2 (with clash marks), bought as PCGS MS63, with CAC, then upgraded by PCGS to MS63+ upon “Reconsideration”. For $3, CAC automatically reapplied their sticker since Cert Number remained unchanged.

Some nice dollar gold coins.... I do not have any $1 gold... they are so tiny....I thought about getting a couple of slabbed coins...have not followed through. This thread has me thinking about it again....Cheers, RickO
The 1850-C gold dollar is one of the scarcer Charlotte pieces. Doug Winter estimates that the surviving population is 150 to 250 pieces. This is graded AU-58. I bought this one from a generalist dealer who happened to have it in stock.
didn't feel comfortable bidding too much on this a few weeks back
Maybe I will get a Charlotte gold dollar.... It will fit with my CC collection
Dang it...now I am hooked - well, almost... Cheers, RickO
It's either a counterfeit or it's been used for jewelry. My gut tells me it's the latter, but you did well to avoid it.
The 1851-C gold dollar is the most common Charlotte Mint gold dollar. It's even available in Mint State.
Some great pics! The California one is very cool! With the enlarged pics, they look like Double Eagles!
I have the three types:

I'll vote for Original Dan's 1854 S. I have an AU that looks like a pauper in comparison...
Well, just Love coins, period.
Does anyone wish to explain to the Newbies how a coin with a long scratch on the neck can be straight graded?
Insider, that is an excellent question. Having no answer myself, do you have any observations?
Possibly it’s a line of dirt and not a scratch? Hard to tell for sure from the picture.
