Gotta go with Vegas, Orlando. But, Rosemont is a good venue every time I was there. Vegas, Orlando, and Rosemont would have the best access for everyone for air travel, all 3 have the hotel and restaurant base needed, plus many other things to do.
But if world coins are becoming more of a factor, I say it should be in my favorite Euro city - Amsterdam!

Was there on Sunday - passed through the RLD on the way back from our restaurant (Breda - look it up), to our hotel next to Centraal Station. Lot's going on in the RLD and always interesting............

Baltimore used to be the best place in the east coast until crime became a concern. I really want Baltimore to retain that status.
There are plenty of nice, affluent areas in southern Maryland and northern Virginia that could easily serve as convenient substitutes.
The trouble is you have to have easy access to the airports with something less than a rental car or $200 round trip in a limo or taxi ride. If you really want to go on the cheap to the Baltimore airport, you can even take the streetcar that goes out there.

ANAHIEM ,CA. everything there and close by.
Disneyland across street, angel stadium few miles directly down the road,
hotels everywhere within walking distance and more eateries then you can count within walking distance.
choice choices and very very safe area. much parking at hotels and convention center.
centrally located maybe20 minutes from airport John Wayne

Not sure about the best city, but the best place would be on a cruise ship. Imagine a boat load of coin collectors partying on a 3 days cruise
And if the ship sinks then all the coins at the bottom of the ocean will become treasure coins (evil grin)!

For the Winter/Spring ANA show Charlotte, Orlando, Tampa or Atlanta.
Summer ANA, Chicago is the best choice. 10 min. from the airport, plenty
of lodging and a decent choice of restaurants. Gibson's is a good choice
and so is Morton's, but for me Morton's is rather pricey. I'm sure Charmy
can make several other suggestions.
I have to say West Palm Beach Florida. Why? 1st, there is no easier airport to get in and out of than WPB, this fact is a key to having a show like this. There are also plenty of other things to do when you have the time. The night life is second to none, and if you plan it right you will find that the room rates are very reasonable.
Just my honest opinion.

As boring as it sounds Chicago in the summer and Orlando in the winter. Cost and ease of travel are big pluses

I don't disagree with the benefits you mentioned, however, large portions of the US are completely ignored. There are 17,000,000 people between Boston and NYC and a lot of them have a lot of money. If you're looking for a smaller more "affordable" convention, you can do Springfield, MA or Hartford, CT or Providence RI and all are within 20 minutes of a major airport and plenty of hotels and restaurants.
People wonder why there aren't many new bodies coming into this hobby. Maybe if we changed the location of our biggest gatherings, new people and new dealers would set up shop? I know people don't like to leave their comfort zone, especially coin collectors, but holy moly, change things up every once in a while. Don't you think it would actually improve attendance at the FL/IL coin shows if they only have them 1/2 as much?

Hartford or Providence would both be excellent locations
For me, it would be excellent, because
a) it would be really easy for me to get to and there is good access from air, rail and sea!
and;
b) you will probably be either robbed or killed and all of your inventory will be available to me at any of the local pawn shops for just pennies on the dollar!
The list of viable locations is actually quite small
Arizona - Phoenix (But not a desirable location for a summer convention and not considered a good convention city)
Colorado - Denver
Georgia - Atlanta
Illinois - Rosemont
Louisiana - New Orleans
Michigan - Detroit
Missouri - St. Louis, Kansas City
Oregon - Portland
Pennsylvania - Philadelphia, Pittsburgh
Texas - Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston, Austin, San Antonio
Utah - Salt Lake City
Other states eliminated:
Alaska - No suitable locations
California - Tax nexus
Connecticut - No suitable locations
Delaware - No suitable locations
Florida - Sales tax on foreign coins and bullion
Idaho - No suitable locations
Iowa - No suitable locations
Maryland - Tax over $1000
Massachusetts - Tax over $1000
Montana - No suitable locations
New Hampshire - No suitable locations
New York - Tax over $1000
North Dakota - No suitable locations
Rhode Island - No suitable locations
South Carolina - No suitable locations
South Dakota - No suitable locations
Washington - Seattle considers us too small
Wyoming - No suitable locations
Besides coin tax being a consideration a lot of cities feel that National coin shows are too small.

For the organization to reach new heights and for the hobby to grow, it must not remain anchored to one location. I agree they should avoid cities charging $290k for union dues. But It is important to move about the country and not get lazy about Ohare just because it's a centralized location with a little cheaper hotel rates. Many dealers will pay the extra rates if they know it's a locale they can take their families to and which collectors will want to come to. Plus, the publicity of moving to different areas and spreading the word is important. We don't do enough self promoting and many people with the means to buy great coins simply don't come anymore, or don't even realize our industry exists.
I also think the auction companies can help by making the live events a little more of a must-be-at type of affair. The live online bidding is a great tool, but the social aspect has been lost.

How about a compromise between anchor cities--alternating Chicago/Orlando/Vegas--with moveable in the other years?
For example:
Year 1: Chicago
Year 2: Denver
Year 3: Orlando/Vegas
Year 4: pick a city
Year 5: Chicago
rinse/repeat?
Gonna get me a $50 Octagonal someday. Some. Day.

If LA area one coming up on my way.
I'll second that! Seaport District has some nice venues...

Sounds like the ANA needs to invent its own city and convention center to make everyone happy.
