1876 proof trade dollar with multiple crisscrossing hair lines on both sides, a cleaning.... Untoned but mint state... How do you bid on such a coin? Sheet is around $1500 or $1600 on Pr60. Is there a rule of thumb in biding on cleaned proof trade dollars? 1876 is the third highest mintage of those proofs... Thanks in advance!

I'm not a trade dollar expert, but I think the normal rules apply. It is very hard to generate a definitive price on an impaired coin. It is especially hard without a photo. A $1500 coin in solid Proof 60 doesn't really help. Is the coin a Pr65 with a cleaning? Is it a Pr58 with a cleaning? How harsh is the cleaning?
As always, I think the question is: what's it worth to you? If it looks better to you than a no problem proof 60, you could bid over $1500. If it looks much worse, bid much lower.
Look up sales of PR60-details examples of that and other dates. There should be quite a few.

It looks polished, not cleaned. I would expect it to bring roughly $900, based on what I see in the images.

Looks like a 63 cam by those pics. I’ll presume the cleaning is more obvious in person. I’d say it’s worth taking a shot at a straight grade by our hosts - you may be surprised
While I’m not nearly that optimistic, I think it would be worthwhile to submit it for grading, anyway.

It looks hazy not polished. 62 cam and mirrors that deep are rare on trades

With China's counterfeits these days it would be worth more IMHO in either Straight or Details graded plastic.
