    Indeed. I wonder who figured out that as the country kept adding states, they would either have to keep using smaller and smaller stars or standardize the number at 13?

    I might get flamed for saying this, but that black spot on her jawline is quite distracting. Maybe if l think of it as a Cindy Crawford-like beauty mark it will be less distracting! Regardless of the spot, or not, it's a stunner and a keeper!

    The average grade of 65.6 (at 48% completion) is pretty amazing.

    Okay, I'll call you out. So on my computer screen, the obverse of the G$5 is 174mm in diameter, and the black spot is 1mm in diameter. In reality, the coin itself is 25mm in diameter, which means the black spot is 0.14mm - less than 1/6th of a millimeter. So you are saying something so tiny is "Quite Distracting"? I don't know if you could even see it in hand. If nothing else, it proves the originality of the piece!

    You are probably correct. In hand I bet it's not noticeable. In the true view it was the first thing my eye was drawn to. I still think it's an amazing coin!

    This problem with scaling of contact marks, spots, etc. is of course proportionally worse for even smaller coins like half dimes.
    Unfortunately, it seems that most of the time we look at the photo, or at the coin under some type of magnification,
    so it helps to keep in mind the actual size of the contact mark.

    Lovely piece of Americana.

    Those early pieces always make me wonder though - is that what everyone thought eagles and people really looked like, or did our artists and engravers just suck? No offense to anybody, but the eagle looks like some bizarre dinosaur, and Liberty looks like she's holding onto Ben Franklin's kite.
