Would the forum object to an auction style listing on the BST

One thread, one coin with a 99c start and no reserve. Only one auction per member at a time.
Three or maybe 5 days.
No bumps by the op to keep it from having too large of a presence.
What do you think?

That is generally frowned upon.
My Collection of Old Holders
Never a slave to one plastic brand will I ever be.
I saw this used on an Australian coin forum that I used to follow. Some items (usually more scarce ones) got decent traction.
I’m not sure if PCGS would approve, but the rules don’t specifically address this.
Could the software handle the volume?
Only one way to find out.... If it gets shut down, does the current high bidder still win at the last bid price?? If so, Let's do it!! haha
Maybe on the testing forum?
The BST has not been an auction venue....It is open to offers on items for sale...I would rather it remain as it has been. I have obtained several great coins via the BST. Cheers, RickO
How many eyeballs here vs eBay?
So YOU want to get less for your coins?
You can do a Dutch auction. Just set a price and keep lowering by a set increment every 24 hours. It'll sell eventually.
I would p> @ErrorsOnCoins said:
Sort of depends on the coin now, doesn't it?
That is a good idea, Bryce.
I'd prefer offering to our audience than to the eBay folks.
I'm not sure an "auction" without the normal controls and constraints of a real auction website really works.
Evidence: The wife is in a FaceBook group dedicated to purses. They do "auctions", and it invariably causes issues and fights. Last minute (sniping) bids that may, or may not, be "too late". Identical bids with the same time-tags. Strings of $0.01 increments. People pulling bids. Interspersed questions that may, or may not, be answered to ALL bidders. Photos that get swapped and changed, making previous bidders complain.
Basically, anarchy. (And I get to hear all about it. "Yes, Dear. No, that wasn't fair. Uh, huh...."
)
We have mostly men here on the forum so those problems should not occur.
Auctions should be stylish --- and also have lots of steamed shrimp !
Just do it but take bids by PM and update once a day; taint rocket science.
No...I'll wait for the blessing of someone with a CU badge first. As well, the bidding will be transparent.
No. I'd prefer to stay as is. But if change comes - so be it.
What about an auction format where the winning bid is one that has not been overbid in 24hrs? Minimum Bid increments of $1. The post would need to detail payment methods beforehand, along with shipping costs, etc. That way there are no misunderstandings after.
It would more than likely start wars between members. I can just see it now😂.
I think it's probably been done here in the past and nobody got their bundies in an undle over it.
Out host let’s us sell coins they make no money on let’s not push it.

Another (potential) concern:
Some completely unknown member/bidder with 5 total posts shows up, and drops a bid. Are you, as a seller, willing to honor that deal, and the risks it could represent?
(I don't do much shopping on the BST, but I assume sellers retain a right to approve or reject buyers based on reputation, or "the smell test".)
Auction ? I can't find two people who want to fight it out for coins. I have 5 Barber quarters up on ebay and can't get a bid for $.99 after 5 days. What makes anyone think it would work on this site ?
What's your ebay handle? LOL
It's acoinshop I believe
Ask for payment as cash in small bills.
The more successful ones I’ve seen had most of what you mentioned.
There can still be issues, but that is to be expected.
I like the 24 hours with no bid threshold.
Are we allowed to have hidden reserve and house bids like the major auction houses too?
Almost as bad as those that try and get interest in their coin on the forum before listing it on the BST.

Can we use our alts to shill bid up our listings?
Worry is the interest you pay on a debt you may not owe.

Good idea! Maybe we can hire other posters or use alts to create artificial hype too like for the 2013 ANA gold Kennedy Halves.
...or we could all just roll up a big fat doobie and then puff-puff pass...I know, it’s a stretch but I’ll be over here doing just that...well, puff-puff pass it to myself and repeat, till my fingernails sizzle
The Winter Garden fellow is the potted plant in the room.
Plants, shills, and edits ... oh my!
Less? No fees here.
Do the math, ebay fees vs eyeballs vs no fees vs 3 eyeballs.
No contest.
We got the eyes...but not the balls.
@ErrorsOnCoins "3 eyeballs"
Is there a member here missing one or is there a member with 1 extra?
Yes
Just ask for $1 million OBO for everything
That's not going to work. People laugh at me enough as it is.
POR is always popular.
PM sent.

We have only two members here and one of them is a cyclops?

Sounds like a typical eBay listing.
