Worth getting graded???

Found this Kennedy today hunting through a few coin rolls I got today. Just wandering if this is worth grading. Unfortunate eyesore on the obverse. The reverse and the rim appear to be In good shape. All comments are welcome and appreciated.

Nice finding silver, but this one is not worth grading.
No.
Why do you think that this is worth more than silver value of about $6?
Thanks, didnt think it would be. Boy I was hoping for the rare SMS variety. No suck luck yet. Lol
No.
I'm pretty sure the higher the grade the more it's worth, or am I misunderstanding this whole coin collecting bid?????? 🤔
This is true but the large scratch eliminates the possibility of a high grade. It has substantial damage.
Worth silver value. Nothing wrong with a 64' Kennedy. Congrats!! and welcome to the forum.
At first I thought it was scratched but now think that someone attempted to carved an initial A into it. Coins with scratches or graffiti like that will not grade as they are just real but damaged.

First: Try and figure out what it would grade. Here is a good tool: https://www.pcgs.com/photograde/
Second: Get a general idea of what a graded coin would be, but realize these are estimates: https://www.pcgs.com/prices/us
Third: Having a single coin graded by our hosts costs about $50. Always take this into consideration. If, after slabbing (and purchasing), the value of the coin is not at least over $75+ then it is probably not worth it.
Even if it were that, how could it be big deal with that big “V” cut into the obverse? But, I guess some people will buy it if it is.
Am I on the right path or is everyone at PCGS and H> @sellitstore said:
That's why I said "eyesore on obverse". Thanks for the info man. Super excited about the hobby.
You found silver- that is always a good thing so in that regard you are on the right track.
However, that particular coin is the last one I would ever get graded, so in that regard....
Keep searching. You are doing pretty well so far.
seriously?

OP: That's not an "eyesore"... that's major damage.
How to:
Check a price guide (PCGS, https://coinprices.com, there are others) - the jump in value for a 64 Kennedy is at MS66 and MS67... even at MS66, it's not worth the grading fees.
Check the photograde you were pointed at earlier and your coin is nowhere near MS67 even w/o damage.
So no

That is PMD...Post Mint Damage... and will not receive a grade...just worth melt value now. Cheers, RickO
Yeah, pretty new to this so some guidance from fellow collectors is appreciated. Damn sure dont want to read your negative comments. Thanks, have a great day sir.
I've got some with impaired obverses that one may want to consider grading. Would sell one for less than cost of grading. Because one man's junk is junk.

suggestion:
Buy a red Book, that should help you to get some guidance about values.

Not all comments will be what you would like. Grow up and learn that failure is part of success.

Forget about the SMS nonsense. You aren't going to find one. The fact that you would have even considered sending in a damaged Kennedy half for slabbing tells me that you need to slow down and learn a lot more about the coin market and grading before you spend another cent on coins or slabbing.
If you don't like the advice given here I say go for it as V after all is for Victory.
Tough advice but 100% accurate.
You found silver while roll-searching - that is your victory. Move onto the next roll and try to repeat that success. Learn about what genuine errors look like so you will recognize one if you see one, but otherwise it is all about volume and luck.
Good 90% find. Add it to the stack.

nice find!
coins with scratches like that aren't grade-able by pcgs or ngc, but can be slabbed.
if was a very rare coin you found, it might be worth getting it authenticated with a details designation. for example, if it was a 1943 copper cent, i would definitely have it slabbed.
in this case, a scratched 64 kennedy half is worth "melt value" for coin silver (90% silver).
