A reliable report on FB indicates Steve Ellsworth has won the election for president. Any other results yet available?

    Ditto on the e-mail.

The two Midwesterners who I voted for Governors both made it, but my selection for President did not. Overall happy.

    Looking forward to Rosemont!

Don't think there was anybody on the ballot not fit to serve. Glad we had some choices. I hate it when a ballot is a pat hand.

    Congrats to Col. Steve.

Dr. Ralph Ross was in my class at Summer Seminar. Got to speak with him a lot during the week. Very interesting guy. Glad he was re-elected.

Something to think about...6000 votes dictated the direction of the ANA. That's the way it often is in an election. We are lucky that in the case of the ANA, all the candidates were deserving.

It would be better if there was "numismatic" mission instead of "No More Lawsuits." But I do appreciate where he is coming from.

That’s fine, but it’s not like any of the other candidates were pro-lawsuits.

The truth is that these elections are not decided on where the candidates stand on the issues. They all pretty much stand united there. ANA elections are won based on the candidates’ reputation and experience.

No, but the president can create a culture where they are less likely to occur.

I have a number of reasons why I’ve never run for the ANA Board. One of them is that I’m convinced that the personal costs of serving far exceed the personal benefits.

I agree, but isn't that something one is consciously aware of when serving on a non-profit board.

I would think so, but RealOne suggested that ANA officers benefit from their position. My point is that whatever the benefits, they seem to be outweighed by the costs.

Please don’t take this as a nasty reply, but when one agrees to serve on a Board, it should NEVER be for personal gain, but only to provide benefit to others. The only thing you should expect to get from serving is personal satisfaction from having helped others.

That’s a nice thought. Still, anyone committing to a job like that has to consider the personal costs and benefits, alongside more altruistic considerations. Speaking for myself, I would have to believe I could make a really big difference before I would choose to serve.

While I agree with the general sentiment of this post, I’d argue that the number of votes necessary to change the direction of the ANA is less than 6000. Take the President, for example. If 179 people had changed their vote from the winner to the runner up, there would be a different winner. So I suppose that one could argue that all it would take to alter the direction of the ANA is 179 votes.

Regardless, congratulations to the winners and best wishes for their success!

Steve went way out of his way to be among collectors at local and national shows and talk

Before you think that he is just another dealer give him a chance or go say hello to him and voice your thoughts and concerns. With that said I’m not really sure any one person can change the ANA overnight but at least they can try to point it in the right direction

Congratulations to Steve and everyone who was elected!

I'm curious to see what Steve will do. His platform indicated he's going to continue existing work and programs so that's what I'm expecting, not any big changes. Here's an excerpt:

If elected I will continue and complete some of the terrific initiatives that were begun by Presidents Garrett and Adkins, and will continue to build on the long-term development and gifting programs I’ve been instrumental in.

Congrats to Dr. Ross. He's a good man, dedicated to education and the hobby. I met Dr. Ross many years ago at a summer ANA in the exhibit area where he was setting up exhibits for YN's from his home town club that could not come to the show.

That's easy goal. How about no more self induced lawsuits and cleaning up the hobby, not in that order.
These guys are ridiculous. What a platform, proves that voting for these guys is a dumb downed personality pick.
More business as usual and maybe no more self inflicted lawsuits will be the result.
Total waste of time, the only one who benefits are the leaders at the ANA, and that is if they aren't sued. LOL.

You sound like the TYPICAL person I run across...all talk and complaints...yet a HOLLOW HEART and NO ACTION! Why don't you get off your rump and back up YOUR MOUTH. You don't need to run for the board yourself. Perhaps you will write a letter to the new ANA President with some concrete suggestions (copies to the Board members).

I catch these guys at major coin shows - they listen. IMO, Mike Ellis is the squeaky "Trump-like" member you might appreciate and contact with your suggestions. Please let us know that you did something useful. o:)

That's a wonderful attitude and I'm glad you're so open to seeing how he does, before passing judgment.

Much better stated than my rant. :)

personally, i like the ana. my experience has always been positive. all the members i have met are passionate about numismatics...so, that's a good thing!

i took time to learn about each of the candidates before voting. not all my choices were selected. however, now that we know the outcome, let's give them all a chance and see how they do. i wish them the best.

    Does it really matter?

Only if you care about the hobby.

Which dealer's turn will it be next?
What magnificent things have each elected member done for the hobby?
Is there a dept at the ANA that punished dirtbag dealers?
Is there a dept at the ANA that punishes grading companies that grade in ridiculously loose ways?
Is there a dept at the ANA that tried to stop counterfeiting anywhere in the country?

actually, the ana does a lot to teach people, especially young adults and children, how to properly grade coins and identify counterfeits. so, yes...there is a department for that.

i respectfully suggest you attend a summer seminar. you seem to have some issues with the ana that you could bring to their attention and possibly some things you could learn as well. maybe it could be your chance to make a difference.

we all have to contribute to combat the things you mention in order further numismatics. maybe you have...i don't know.

I've had dinner with Steve previously, and I think he is a tremendous person for the Presidentship. I don't think anybody can drastically change the ANA in a short period of time, and think that two years is too short of a time for a term. I also think that Col. Ellsworth can push the ANA in the right direction. He's certainly the right person for the job.

I’ve been thinking this too. Anyone think the Presidency term should be increased? It seems like a 2 year revolving door and I’m not sure how much can be accomplished that way.
