Try grading this 1910 Lincoln head cent. I purchased it “raw”.

Is it still raw?? Or are we guessing what grade it was assigned? Either way... looks like a proof, RB... and maybe a 65....Cheers, RickO

Now, this coin is in my possession, and is still "naked”.

Edited: Based upon viewing the pictures again, reading comments from knowledgeable posters and seeing the coin's listing, my guess is that it's a business strike. And I will leave it at that.

Looks 67 honestly. I see why others are stating proof yet I am going against the norm and think it's MS.

I guess my initial thoughts have been validated for PR designation. I don't see many blemishes either. .. 66, but 67 wouldn't shock me.

1910 MPL Die # 1 has numerous large die markers on the obverse in the IGWT location that are not visible in your pic (but still a great pic). While Die # 2 has finer and harder to detect markers on the the rev, that I am still not seeing. So My vote is its not a MPL either. But a great hammerred MS 65 Red Lincoln because these MPL surfaced fields rarely get a decent grade IMHO.

Lance, why would you think it might not straight grade?

I think it probably will straight grade. PCGS sometimes says QC for these early Lincolns when the color is a little uneven.

I also wonder why it was sold raw.

    Reverse rim is not squared...

Looks recolored. IMHO will not straight grade.

Because it was never slabbed? Slabbing is not yet legally required for coins held by the general public.

No, but that was a mighty obnoxious way of expressing oneself. I was referring to the fact that many , including myself, would be suspicious of such a seemingly high end coin being ungraded in today’s world. It leads one to wonder why.

MS66. Even tho it has matte prooflike surfaces the rims are wrong for a MP.

The only thing that May keep it out of a PCGS holder is the color?
I have seen cents with the same color slabbed and others body bagged ????

Wow, this is a very hard GTG. Guesses are all over the place, but understandable!

I'll go with the PR66RB crowd; it almost looks like a BN masquerading as a RD.

Question: what's up with the top of first '1' in the date?

So now that it is listed on Ebay we know it must be a Die 2. Good luck with your sale!

Why didn't you send it to PCGS to get their opinion?

I would think you'd recoup more than the grading fee by having it certified.

Regardless of any of our guesses based upon images, I'm quite surprised and disappointed that someone as knowledgeable as the OP would list the coin for sale as an uncertified Proof.

    Not graded;
    1) surfaces not original
    A). Recolored
B). Someone referenced spots/crud in the O of One on reverse. Looking at pictures closely you can see more spots. Coin appears to have been "conserved"
    2) This post was done to raise publicity of coin in attempt to increase target audience.

I'm not buying the recolored argument. I'm guessing it's a proof but have no first hand experience. Therefore PF 66 R/B.

Very nice 1910........regardless of authentication. If PR or MS it will be graded QC (.91). Might straight grade after ten submitals over ten years. I just bought a 1910 PR66BN for about $1K that has a lot more issues.

Its not a proof coin. I would say if it straight grades (color varies) its somewhere around MS 65 RB

Despite being a beautiful coin. I'm not thinking it's a proof, inner rims look too rounded to me. I also don't like the few areas that appear to show spots having been removed, primarily the spot between the two stems on the reverse...so I'd say genuine.

Technically, it was listed on eBay ten minutes before this thread was posted, if you're keeping score at home.

Did anyone notice on the eBay link that NGC now offers a preliminary opinion for $5 and a preliminary opinion and grade for $10? I did not know that. Sounds to me like a worthwhile service. Sellers of a coin subject to many different opinions (like this one) should welcome that service. Does or will PGCS follow suit?
