Just got this in from London: Kampen, Flanders c.1600 1/2 gold noble on a broad planchet.
Made for trade (primarily wool) with England.
Design in archaic style,
Fr. 152a. Delmonte 1104.
I count 13 lions on this coin. Beat that! :-)

Gem/near gem proof striking with exquisite cabinet toning of the new design 1/2 birr or 1/2 talari for Menelik II made at Paris, 1894 AD or 1887 EE. Dies by LaGrange. Really pretty coin and not at all common in Proof,

Newp. 1791 dated Sierra Leone One Dollar, SOHO very early restrike (from die state).
Lion obv/Black and white hands clasped rev. The 1791 silver version was the very first circulating crown to have been struck by a steam press anywhere (Boulton & Watt).
Sierra Leone was set up as a haven for ex-slaves-many from USA- by abolitionist Clarkson but the UK really botched it. The Wikipedia article is depressing. Most original colonists died. Later arrivals were technically free but actually re-enslaved as "indentured". In 1898 a real estate tax on homes exceeding their total value sparked a revolt. After the UK won it executed 100 black soldiers who had surrendered expecting leniency.

This is just a partial selection from my British collection. The Lion theme is too common on coins; I'd end up posting too many coins from GB and elsewhere if I were to post every one that I have.

This one has always been one of my favorite coins.
The Bulgaria 1930 10 Leva coin shows the "Madara Horseman", the word "Krum" in the Cyrillic alphabet, and the date "814".

Copper-nickel, 30 mm, 10.98 gmThe "horseman" is a rock relief carved into a vertical cliff face depicting a life-size horseman, a lion, and a dog.
The common belief was that the horseman was Khan Krum who ruled Bulgaria from AD 804-815.
Later the relief was dated to AD 705, almost 100 years before Khan Krum.
Bulgaria also struck the coin in 1943 using a different metal alloy:
