In 1854 I would have preferred to have this coin with the same value as three silver dollars - all things being equal. However, today I would much rather have three Seated Libs of the same year and grade!!

I'd rather have 300 freshly minted cents that I could take back to the future.

A 2019 cent may have been questioned in 1854.

I have a preference for gold coins.... So, for me, the decision would be easy....Gold is good... Cheers, RickO

600 half cents might even be better!

I agree, unless the Three Dollar Gold was this one ;)

In 1854 I would have preferred to have this coin with the same value as three silver dollars -

At that time, the three Liberty Seated Silver Dollars had a melt value that exceeded their face value and the price of gold was down because of the treasure coming from California. Congress, for some reason, did not lower the weight of the Silver Dollar as part of the Coinage Act of 1853 that reduced the weight of everything else. Maybe you might re-think your 19th century monetary stategy. ;)

Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?
