Has this ever happened to you?? (gavelsnipe users on eBay)

I placed my usual gavelsnipe bid and saw I had lost a coin that I clearly should have won. What really bothers me is this "lost" bid didn't just cost me, it costs the seller. As a seller, I worry about snipe bids not being put through on my listings:

wow
Yikes! I never used a snipe program...I do it the old fashioned way...hover over the keyboard.

if you have your time set to small a time there is a possibility your bid can't get placed if there is a network glitch...
Nope. And I do use GavelSnipe regularly. Annoying, I'm sure...

Well, at least you are still batting 100%
Yes, but under the result, it says "user was outbid."
Here's one that says under result, "Auction Ended before bid could be placed."
Not too long ago, someone posted that they had lost an ebay snipe because the snipe program ran into a captcha and couldn't place the bid.
Edit: I've never used a snipe program so I have no clue.

No sympathy for the snipe bidders. Sorry.
You get what you pay for with that site.
LOL....that was me.
I'm an 'e-snipe' user and have never had a problem.
Never had a problem with Gixen.
Would like to know why you lost that one!
I always snipe myself... I like counting down with two screens and slipping it in at the last three seconds....
Usually with a nuclear bid to cover any maximums .....Cheers, RickO
I've had mixed results with Gixen. First attempt worked as advertised, second did not.
Insert witicism here. [ xxx ]
Sounds like there are issues with Gavel Snipe.
FWIW, I have been using Esnipe for about 20 years - zero issues.

Same here.
I could set an alarm to wake me in the middle of the night so I could bid manually but... nah.

Was it a four hour auction that started at midnight?
it makes the world go round
no. i've had nothing but good experience with gavel over MANY snipe bids. not to just try and get something cheap but when i knew or figured i would not be able to be around at auction end.
too many times have i been slowly bid up when putting a max bid in too far in advance of auction end.
MANY sellers ended up getting more because i used the program in lieu of foregoing the item(s) altogether.
this includes items where an item was started at a high amount and the snipe program was used to give the seller their asking price while protecting myself from losing by some paltry sum from those that like to bid on an item perhaps just because it has met opening bid and they could maybe win it for a lil bit over.
programs like this takes 99% of the variables out of the equation for me and i can place many and keep my focus on buying items and not playing the bidding war game. i don't mind paying up for items i want but prefer not to also have to spend too much time watching the listings, especially when i'm really buying a lot which requires a lot of backend work. tpg, driving, strategies, shows etc.
if i had 100K or more to play with i'd keep their servers humming not just with ebay either.
.
Yep. Good guess.

It looks like your snipe was timed to send only 5 seconds before auction close.
As @habaraca posted, this may not be enough for ebay to receive and process it, if there is a lot of traffic.
Could be wise to change that margin to 10 or 15 seconds.
That Result text might be wrong.
I have occasionally used a snipe site which uses a 15 second margin,
and it works most of the time, but has occasionally failed to be received by ebay in time. Maybe 1 in 10 fails.
Ouch ..... I am sorry
5 seconds to us mortals is 5 billion nanoseconds to Ebay. Traffic is not an issue.
I suppose if there is a connectivity gap of 20 seconds, increasing the lead time from 5 seconds to 15 seconds will still fail.
But I believe this is all speculative regarding the nature of the connectivity problem.
We don't really have the information to say what the cause was.
I have no idea what sort of support gavelsnipe may have, but have you contacted them? They may have an explanation or some further logging or something.
I sent them a message through their 'contact' option that goes to customer support immediately after this occured. They have yet to reply.
It's possible it might be a "he", not a "they".
It appears that GavelSnipe bids ARE being blocked by eBay......suprised eBay would want to cost sellers money and buyers the opportunity to purchase. At this point, I'd be scared to start an auction, on eBay, at 99 cents:

Have always been pleased with bidnapper. Haven't bought anything in quite a while though so my info isn't really current.
I don't trust these esnipe sniping programs or new and unannounced Ebay policies. When it really matters I do it myself.

I signed up with Gixen today. I have never had a single missed snipe with Gavelsnipe in the many years I've been using it but looks like they are having issues now. I'm surprised ebay hasn't developed their own sniping platform.

I don't know- seems like a good way to encourage sellers to stop listing auctions.
How so?

As a seller, why would I want eBay to offer a feature that reduces bidding? Just from reading the posts on this message board, it's already clear lots of people won't bid if they can't snipe. Increasing that number won't help.
I agree, I always thought eBay should add extra time to an auction if it receives a snipe in the final seconds......that's what Legend does on their auctions.
Sniping doesn't reduce bidding, it just changes when the bids are placed.
If sniping programs are blocked by ebay, then I would agree with you, but to my understanding, at least, the sniping program issue that prompted this thread is affecting Gavelsnipe users only.

Sniping is also a good way to protect yourself from being either shill bid or chip bid up to your maximum bid early on. How many times have we seen a bidder bid 6, 7, 8 times to run up a high bid? Sniping at least offers some level of protection from either one of those scenarios.

Sure it does. The purpose of sniping is to prevent other bidders from responding to your bid. But you already knew that,
never in many years had any problems with Biddingscheduler.com
it is free and IMO is perfect and easy to use.
I always bid at 3 seconds. **never **had a failure...although I got out- bid a couple of times as the rule is : first bid at same value wins. and with a 3 second margin, there is no Go-around.
The worst you can do is let Feebay do your bidding by setting a max bid
Does Biddingscheduler allow you to bid on Heritage auctions like GavelSnipe does? Thanks.

You don't need a sniping program to bid at the last moment to essentially accomplish the same thing. In fact, that is the best time to bid.
