I am not sure if this combination is having a positive or negative impact on my coin selection. Was following a nice affordable typical non toned $3 coin for my type set. Which would match the majority of my other gold coins. However it sold quickly. As I was frustrated that I did not promptly buy the coin, I reviewed other inventory, and this coin showed up... I needed one, and it was at a price I could afford. I would never have imagined buying a coin that looked like this, but have now been....hmmm not sure if it is ....( enlightened, educated, tarnished, corrupted, ruined, persuaded, evolved, suckered, matured) into really liking this coin. So, thinking it would not last,,,quickly hit the buy button. So the answer to the subject line is ( sellers pics)=

    I to have a similar problem with my silver half dollar collecting. I love the look of clean silver, white, blast white, etc. And while searching for specific coins I can't always find them like that. I find myself looking at the borderline specimens of what I truly want. I have not, as they say here "pulled the trigger" on one yet. but I keep telling myself to be patient. And that is what I am telling you. BE PATIENT MY FRIEND!!!

    I like this coin quite a lot. Detail is decent despite the degree of wear. The rims are nice. Classic Head gold is fabulous. To me, the grunge is nice and gives it character. There are "layers" of patina and that gives it a natural look.

    What's not to like?

    Take comfort in knowing you are amongst people with similiar situations. I not a type collector into gold, but I have been soaking up info here and have an extremely limited budget. I barely buy. But recently I have seen a few things in my budget, felt that urge to buy, but very quickly my new found knowledge jumped in and I saw the qualities in the coin that would quickly make me regret the purchase.

    That's not a bad choice, I like the original look.

    I myself have learned a lot by reading and participating in this forum. I'd like to believe that hanging out here has been a positive influence in your coin purchases.

    Perhaps I should clarify, I am thrilled with the purchase, was trying to highlight how the board has changed or evolved my views of what a nice coin is..

    Also , I fully concur that patience is key to finding a coin that you will love and can afford...that said, when you do find one, I am now learning that you should trust your knowledge and instincts and act...

    Bryce, it appears that if the dealer statement is accurate, that my coin is one of a current sextuplet with yours, ie same grade and sticker

    Cool. I think you have a keeper there. A really wholesome XF is better in my book than an ugly coin in lower mint state grades...... I'm sure not everyone sees it that way.

    A lot of EF graded Classic Head gold that I have seen doesn’t have much eye appeal. That 1836 $2.50 is quite attractive and a good at a fair price. I think you did well.

    Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

    I had trouble deciding if I should add this pic to @asheland gold type thread or @MWallace recent thread on the $5 classic gold thread. I decided here, so you could see my new addition near the smaller sibling.

    So the journey continues, albeit, I never would have thought that I would get these two before getting a type 2 and type 3 dollar coin, but for me it’s all about the journey and timing....Take advantage of what you like and what comes along.
