Decent detail on a tough date, but those surfaces look about as original as an Elvis impersonator.
the photos worry me about the quality of the coin. I suspect it could be lower grade than it appears

Is the circular chop with the central hollow square device commonly seen? I agree, the surfaces look totally stripped.
"Having chops" was an old trumpet player expression from my youth, so I had to look it up. Seems like it does originate with jazz musicians.
The coin, I don't know. Some of those chops don't look original to me. Probably just the image.
Yep - it's a musician's term for having a good embouchure and stamina - important when making music is your livelihood.

1874 P is very scarce chopped. But that one is just way too cleaned/polished for me.
