Dust collector.
Congratulations to the Consignor!

@asheland? Where you at?

I will say the artist did a good job making it look like a balloon

Well... not my money, not my kind of art.... That being said... someone has no taste and way too much money. Cheers, RickO
It is something the "eight New York critics" will love.
Tech Billionaires need to spend their money or it just clutters up their mansion.
The third thought that came to me when I saw this auction on the Internet was that 91 Million would have made sure Mr. Hansen would never reach his goal.
LOL, with that kind of money I could go down in numismatic history as the dummy who turned the "Super Nova" $20 back to a normal coin.
I can get a mylar ballon at my local supermarket ,that looks remarkably similar, for a few dollars less.
Is this the most over-hyped coin in the history of numismatics?
Worry is the interest you pay on a debt you may not owe.
that might get a green bean
Scary. If I saw it at a yard sale I would pay $20 for it., if it were close to Easter. Not the only example of silly money being paid for works of art, including commercial art. Even the recently sold Monet is, in my view, mediocre for a Monet. It's one of many he did as studies of light. Interesting when looked at together, such as at the Art Institute of Chicago, not so much as individual works. Why does all this matter? I can't help but think of the alternative uses for $100m, some of them actually unselfish.
Dont forget the seal of eye appeal 😂
omg no we wont
Sold for over $20 mil over it’s pre-sale estimate. A lot of high-end advertising was occurring on the billionaire channels.
All it took was two with deep pockets.
How tall is that shiny eared logomorpha?
Without knowing the height of anything in this pic, I’ll hazard maybe 2-3 feet tall?

The work was bought by art dealer Robert Mnuchin, father of Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin.

I need a bottle of Scotch and a Quart of Wild Turkey to go!
That is misleading. He was bidding on behalf of a client.
I was expecting that comment as the first or second after the OP. You guys are getting slow!
Smitten with DBLCs.
Inches? Need it in moles.
What a vulgar display of wealth and obnoxious waste of money.

Yeah, what’s wrong with the consignor? He left a lot of money on the table. LMAO

The jobs went to China and all we got to show for it is this lousy metal trinket. No pensions, and no t-shirt.
Keets, I don't complain about the amount for what a particular coin sells. I'll admit, though, sometimes I find it entertaining in a perverse sort of way.

I'll gladly wait for a Chinese fake on this one, even with a tariff.
I went to a Chinese restaurant a few days ago, and there was a hand written sign in the window "No tariffs on our meals"
Surprised there's not one on Alibaba right now

I'm a fan of all kinds of art, including some modern art.
Dad was an art professor, and mom had a master's in fine art. So I grew up with it. I collect it along with coins.
In my opinion, Jeff Koons is a no-talent hack. The buyer deserves what they got.

Different hobbies, deeper pockets, and a greater appreciation apparently among a larger, more prominent collector base for leisure activities,.....other than numismatics....apples to oranges.
Interesting though,...this Rabbit is worth more than the combined value of probably all of the 5 1913 Liberty Head V Nickel's...
Write up:
"The playful, stainless steel, 41-inch high rabbit, regarded as one of the most celebrated works of 20th-century art, was sold for more than $20 million over its pre-sale estimate."
If you had this collector base advocating for the Langbord's '33 Double Eagles during litigation...,they'd be legal to own...
In coins just as in art, it is the consensus of what is valuable to the many, that gives anything its monetary worth.
I guess "dreck" doesn't apply to modern art.
Wow - 1 of 3 in the rabbit edition - and the Monet earlier for $100 million wasn't very attractive either.
I'm Glad these bidders aren't bidding on the coins I like

To me it's all relative. Those millions may be like a thousand is to me. He's not going to be able to take either the money or the piece of art with him when he leaves here, so until then what difference does it make?
Maybe that's why it went for so much.
more money than brains !!!!!!!!!!!

Looks like the same art piece is heisted in this upcoming movie.

people forget-it takes brains to make money
I wouldn’t display that ugly trinket in my house if you paid me to take it. Why anyone would pay more than $20 for it is inexplicable. I call BS. That emperor ain’t wearing any clothes.
Maybe it looks better in person. Have to see it in hand.
