Nice round!
Well that is interesting @bidask.
Maybe @BackroadJunkie, @Akbeez, @barndog, @3stars or other AK forumites have info?
Interesting that it looks like a statehood quarter 4 years before their release.
Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.
Did someone mention the US Alaska Mint at Juneau? (Well --- at least an assay office.)

From the Alaska Mint website, I learned something new: Alaska's unofficial State Bird is...
Alaska Mosquito 1oz Silver Medallion

It's probably just a name. We have the North American Mint in Rochester NY. It's just the name of a private mint.
The New York Mint has no connection to the state of NY.
Likely just a private mint located in Alaska
I have an Iditarod silver round from the same location . . .
Drunner
Alaska Mint also had a store in Waikiki about 4+ yrs ago. They displayed some large nuggets and had their silver bars for sale at pretty high prices. They made no money and shut down shortly aftewards.
Many members on this forum that now it cannot fit in my signature. Please ask for entire list.
My example of this mint:

Bought this one on my Alaska cruise in 2006
They are a private mint but they get to mint the annual state medallion with the state seal. A different critter is displayed on the obverse each year. I used to collect them and had a subscription for the "Artist Proof" with a specific serial number. In the end they are just real neat silver rounds at an extreme premium.
Cool. Thank you for sharing. Why not?
I wonder if Mississippi has a Mint?
1979 Shell made all the State quarters lol

Very cool, located in Anchorage!!!! They are on FB.

Here's my Nome Gold Rush Centennial So-Called Dollar struck by the Alaska Mint. It's an ounce of gold. This is the official medal for the centennial celebration and also came in silver and silver with selective gold plating. I have all versions.
I really dig the gold. Great photo.
Pretty neat, thank you all for sharing !!!
Never been impressed with the Alaska Mint products. Just tourist items. Sorry comrades. I own NONE.
However, I have never heard that Juneau, Alaska was recommended as a US Mint before. Very cool info @roger thank you for that. Who signed the doc?
I do my best to steer clear of Anchorage as much as possible. And except for going to the airport there a few times a year, I am mostly successful.
Yes, and one can even "mint" one's own coins at the Alaska Mint!
Some nice looking silver rounds... and the gold round is nice as well... I do not have any Alaska Mint rounds... but might add one or two to my stack... Cheers, RickO
I have 1974 silver round commemorating the Pipeline. I don't know if this outfit produced it.
No, This outfit started in 1992 with the Eagle medallion if memory recalls correctly.
