I've got over a dozen of these and worse. What do they go for raw? This is probably due to the Registry Sets, right? They must be slabbed by PCGS.

So the reason it is so expensive is because it is graded as PO-1 by PCGS - correct? If it were raw, you could buy it for under $30 right?

Yes. MadMarty i believe launched the Lowball Morgan craze. Getting a "1" as I reacll was not very easy.

I sold one of my 92cc dollars in PO 01 for more than twice what this is going for. They are not just laying around for the most part and are extremely hard to find without issues (rim dings, scratches, etc). Yes, get them in PCGS holders and you will be pleased with the values.
This example would be a FA2 in my books but someone got lucky on their submission.

Why would you CAC a low ball coin? A Green Bean usually means right
for the grade and a possible upgrade. Do you really want to upgrade
a low ball coin? If you just need grade verification, how hard could that
be on a low ball?

Well, an 1897 in that grade is "scarcer" than a 66 and much tougher to achieve.

These probably are worthless raw. Someone currently has a raw 1853 Arrows and Rays Seated Quarter that is sitting unsold at $16.90.

Another seller has TWO of these available, PCGS and CAC certified, one offered at $799 and one at $699.

Why not have sub-01 grades?:

Poor-0.5 : date/mintmark can be inferred but not directly read (many chain cents would fall in this category
Poor-0.1: design type clear, but no date (e.g., its a Morgan dollar, not a Peace dollar etc..)
Poor-0.0: only the denomination can be determined - basically the coin is now an underweight planchet

At this price, it is worth rolling a newly certified F-2 in the rock tumbler for a couple more days and resubmit for the coveted P-1 grade! To each their own, however the lowball game is one I won't be participating in-at least in certified coins.

I think a lot of collectors swimming at this end of the pool will drown in the end. What are the bragging rights afforded to those who have the worst examples of a given coin? I mean... really.
The only possible reason I could see for paying a premium on this coin would be to put together a grading set
