1978 Topps Eddie Murray ROOKIE PSA 10 - An alien card of sorts
I have revered the 1978 Topps Eddie Murray Rookie for a long time. I first started collecting in 1981 at age 11 so missed out on buying 1978 Packs but knew Eddie Murray was a "star player" and that his 78 Rookie Card was a special card. I was always on the “lookout” for one as a kid and finally landed a low grade copy and was happier than a pig on its side in cool mud.
Fast forward ---- When I got back into collecting in 2014 a prime Eddie Murray Rookie was on the wish list. I quickly realized how difficult/rare the card is in high grade. In particular, I wanted a PSA 10 with a centered back. I knew it could be a long wait for one to surface. Kinda like sitting on a hilltop watching for UFO’s. Five years later its 2019 and I spotted the UFO and was lucky enough to land it.
Special card of a Baseball Legend who is one of only six total men to claim membership in both the 500 Home Run and 3,000 Hit Clubs. Eddie Murray, Hank Aaron, Alex Rodriguez, Willie Mays, Rafael Palmeiro and Albert Pujols.

Simply Stunning! My all time favorite issue! I pulled a fantastic Murray out of a rack back in 2004 and honestly thought I had a shot at a 10. It came back as a PSA 9. I was happy but felt a little bummed. Might still send that one back in.

Wow, Incredible card. I started much later but always thought the 78Murray with the headshot and rookie cup were an epic match. Congrats on landing a whale.

The '78 Murray is definitely one of those cards you'd salivate over as a kid collecting in the '80s, and that's when it was only a $35-40 card. I still have mine (purchased in those days) but it's certainly not 9 worthy, let alone like this one. Beautiful!

Wow, just a stunner!! I was not a fan of 78s at first, right in the middle of my formative collecting years, thought they were kinda of plain. But over the years I have grown to appreciate how the design does not interfere with the photos, and what a classic look it is.

That is one stunning card, congrats! I love this card probably more than any other card from the 70s. I was also too young when this set was issued, but sometime in the mid to late 80s, my sister's boyfriend (who eventually became my brother-in-law) gave me his childhood collection. It mainly consisted of Topps baseball cards from 74-81, but the Eddie Murray RC was in there and it quickly became the crown jewel of my collection!
If you need to sell some stuff (like a nice 76 Giants FB cello) to help fund that purchase, just let me know!
