Look what came across my table yesterday at a local coin show!

Friday was a quiet day at the Texarkana Coin Show. Not much activity other than a persistent 'local' who was convinced his damaged pocket coins were rare errors (he was a character!).

Then this crossed our table ... yikes!

I am still smiling ...

Wow... very nice acquisition...old soft pack.... that coin has seen some commerce....Not sure how it got in a soft pack...must have been cycled back to the government...Cheers, RickO

Thank you, Bob, for recognizing this piece is unique. Yes ... there is only one and this is it!

It was sold through the GSA as a 'generic' dollar and cost the original purchaser ... $3. It was owned for many years by Leon Hendrickson at SilverTown before the current owner was able to obtain it.

I mentioned this piece 'crossed our table' and that is true, but a little misleading. The coin was not for sale and the owner (who is exceedingly knowledgeable about GSA dollars) knows fully what this coin is. He told us about it and then generously allowed us to play with the coin for a few minutes and shoot an image.

So ... I don't suck for buying it ... I just suck for leading you on a bit ... Sorry ... but I couldn't resist.

I bid on that coin when it was raw. Mr. Hendrickson evidently outbid me. It was pricey as I recall but I thought my $3k would do it....I think we went well beyond that but can't remember where it ended up.

It was an ebay auction.

No, I did not. I can't remember why I stopped bidding but it may have had something to do with "why would you bit that on a worn out dollar?" said the wife.
