Graded coins

I am little confused, but I will try to interpret what you wrote.

When it comes to Morgan Dollars, aside from the strike characteristics of individual issues, the common date and mint mark combinations and the rarer date and mint mark combinations do look pretty much the same. The only difference is that some coins are harder find and more expensive than others.

As for modern Proof coins, about all you will see advertised are PR-69 and 70 coins because those are only pieces that should even be considered for certification. In fact, the PR-69 coins are usually the “mistakes” which didn’t make the PR-70 grade. They often sell for low prices.

You comment about “everything looking the same” is the reason I became a type collector. In a type set, every coin is different, and you can decide to ignore the minor differences in the designs if you choose.

Here is a link to my half cent through non-gold coin type set. Perhaps you will find it more interesting. My only warning is that very collectors are ever able to finish one of these sets because of the rarity and prices for some pieces, especially those in the late 18th and early 19th centuries.

Please provide pics of your comparisons of “graded coins” and “rare coin.”

What you might be missing is the difference between condition rarity and mintage rarity.
