Thoughts on this 1934-S Peace....

Got a good deal on it, obviously graded recently. Never had a peace dollar with toning on obverse like this, thoughts?

Peace Dollars seem to have a toning pattern of their own. Tough date...If you're happy then it's perfect. Nice coin.

The issue of toning is one of personal taste. I don't really care for this look, but others do. i would not expect this toning to deserve any sort of price premium.

I don't really like this coin as an AU58. Maybe it's just the photo, but to me it looks like pretty significant wear over the high points (yes, I know there are some strike issues that also look like wear). I'd expect this at AU55, but for a 58 I usually have to look a while to convince myself it isn't MS. The stuff on the cheek, brow, and obverse left field is also a little too busy for my taste.

All of that aside, congrats on buying the key date coin to an incredibly fantastic series..... in fact the best series in all of US numismatics. :)

    Overgraded and unattractive toning. Sorry.

Well... I do not like the tarnish, I do like the hair detail... but if it were a GTG, I would have said 55... Cheers, RickO

Tough date which is know for a weak strike. That being said I love the hair details. The toning doesn't bother me. There is a bit more chatter than I would normally like but still an attractive coin. I am sure the second photo is trying to show off the toning but I think it is highlighting the chatter and contact marks and making them look worse than they probably appear in person. The dark spot on the reverse at the back base on the eagle's neck concerns me more than anything else. If you got a good deal then I could see purchasing it. However, I think this is a coin I would have to see in hand to decide if it fit my collection or not. Despite everything I just said, I do like the coin. Others have said it already - If you are happy with it that is all that matters.

Thanks for sharing it with us.

Nice strike. Toning is not spectacular but it is still attractive.

Mine was PCGS AU 53 white coin with slight honest wear now in Dansco album. Oddly enough I had trouble finding a nice 24-S, 25-S and 28-S even though they are much cheaper. I think yours is okay but too much chatter in comparison to 1200.00 coins for sale

Too many little nicks and bumps. The color is ok.

The coin is original and the technical grade is accurate. For me it has eye appeal issues.
