58 years in Numismatics.

One day in February 1961 my mother brought home a blue Whitman folder ( 35 cents ) for Lincoln Cents. I was immediately hooked. Along the way I have traveled to over 250 coin shows including 49 consecutive ANA shows, written a few articles on paper money, met a lot of great people and had tons of fun! Post a coin from 1961.

That's some milestone. Our hobby sure has a lot to offer. Way to go and keep on trucking!

I have 60 years in, starting with Christmas 1959. You have been to way more ANA shows than I have. As for coin shows, I have lost count.
I'll have you know that this dime was pulled out of circulation by these same gnarled hands in...1961!
Congratulations, @golden!
Here's a warning parable for coin collectors...
I started around the same time. I remember when the Whitman blue folders went from 35 cents to 39 cents. By 1965 I had the usual U.S. folders, one blank dollar folder and Canadian folders up through 25 cents.
Congrats on a lifetime of dedication, learning and teaching.
I was a late starter but it's been a rewarding hobby here too.
@golden .... Congratulations.... I have about 12 more years in collecting, but have not been to as many shows... nor have I authored any coin articles....Cheers, RickO
Congratulations @golden, I started in 1963 after my cousin showed me his collection. Started with Lincoln cents then nickel's and so on, where your hooked your hooked.
I started in 1961 as a 14 year old. A friend of my Mom and Dad showed me his collection and gave me too coins that I still have. A 1905-O Barber Half ag-g and a 1882-O Morgan Dollar f-vf. In the 70's and 80's I wrote sever articles in the Barber Club books and the Seated Club books. Both on varieties.
I just noticed this was my 18,000th post! I will never catch Ricko!
I figure my start date was sometime in February 1969. I guess that's 50 years ago. I will turn 60 later this year.
Funny, I don't think like a grown-up mature adult, certainly not like my parents at that age.
I was just going to say you don't look a day over...damn! Nevermind!!!
WTG @golden!

Under the tree at Christmas 1960 I found a Red Book, a Blue Book, a Whitman Mercury dime album and a Jefferson nickel album (I was already pluggin' away with my Lincoln album).
My life path diverged from numismatics and since it re converged I found this joint, attended two dozen local show, made it to several ANA shows and to a couple of F.U.N. shows.

I have no coins from 1961 to share. But congratulations on the last 58 years of numismatic journey, and I hope the next 58 are even better!

I, too, have been at it for 58 years. Sorry-I don't have a 1961 coin to post, tho.
