15 years ago, a ramble.

15 years ago today;
I got married and to my surprise I still am, I was still in the Navy, I collected world coins from my travels, I was working on a type set of Chevy Camaros, and I had no idea where I would end up.
Today I am working on a #3 variety set of Jefferson nickels, a type set of US half dollars, I am a civilian now, all but one of the Camaros are gone having been replaced with kids and coins. It is interesting how times and priorities changed.
What is your snapshot 15 years back?
Happy Thursday, best wishes,
Rocco

15 years ago would be law school... no time for coins, just working and studying!
But if we go back a little further, it would be me in high school spending most of my time not studying and driving around in my metallic blue '86 IROC-Z! Much more fun!

15 years ago I was just getting back into collecting after my entire collection (it wasn't too expensive) was stolen at college a few years prior. I soon had my first child and then had 2 more. My collecting escalated into collecting almost everything until I narrowed it down to certified early commems and a 7070 type set that is complete.
Nice stroll down memory lane Aspie!
15 years ago, I just had my second daughter. I was collecting sports cards heavily. The only coins I had were my mint proof sets up to that current year. Fairly new home owner and only been married a couple of years.
Today...my youngest daughter is in High School, my oldest is married and bought a house. I sold all of my cardboard and bought gold and silver coins, the house is nearly paid off, my wife still likes me. Life is good!
15 years ago for me was about 5 years BC (before coins).
Was in my first job out of college, free time probably spent playing with synthesizers or at the shooting range. Clearly, I was single.

Fifteen years ago I was a new empty-nester and was focusing on my role as a Director of IS for a local company. While I had been disengaged in serious coin collecting, I would buy the annual sets, set aside shiny US coins I happened to come across, and collect a sample of the coins in circulation in the countries I visited.
Long story short, I recently resolved that in my 60s I would resume focus on the coin collection of my youth - getting it and all my loose coins organized and then building upon it from there. Last September I took those first steps. I decided I wanted to shoot for complete sets of all the types I saw as a kid - Franklins, Walkers, Mercurys, and Buffalos, wheat leafs. Also, I recently inherited my dad's coin collection and some investment silver coins, so I'm working through organizing that.
Looking forward, I'm working with a grandson and young niece, trying to get them interested in coins. Hopefully, I will be able to pass on my coin collections to family who appreciates what I will have built.
My strategy is about collecting what I intend to keep, not investing in what I plan to sell.
15 years ago I would have been starting first grade...I can still smell the crayons and model clay like it was yesterday

Glad to see some younger collectors! 15 years ago my son was just born and my daughter was 3. Now he is driving with a permit and she will be off to college in the fall. Time flies for sure!
Collecting wise I was adding to my sets back then and still am. Some are finished, some are closer. One thing I have done is pare down a bit over the last couple of years...more to do. Too many coins that don't fit into any particular place in my collection.

15 years ago i cared about nothing but bowling and type iii air cooled vw's. Now I'm married with two daughters and bankrupt for life.

Did someone say Camaro? I have an 88 Sport Coupe that I've owned since 2002. In 2006 it got a LS1/T56 swap from a 2002 Camaro SS donor, then in about 2008 heads/cam/intake upgrades, repainted 2010-11 or so. Some creature comforts are going back in this summer so I can enjoy driving it again.
15 years ago, Feb 2004, I was at Fort Gordon going through AIT for 35F(now 94F) training. Damn I feel old now, how is it already 2019?
Collector, occasional seller
2 vettes(actually had 5 vehicles and down to 1 now) and 2 boats. Now only 1 boat that hasn't been in the water in 8 years. It's a shame because it only has 50 hours on a blown 454 cranking out around 700 horses! Wish I could get my money outta that pit!
The others got turned into coins!
Wow... how times have changed!

15 years ago I was a baby!
I was doing a lot of Geocaching. Had already done a type set of Commems. Geocaching was fun, but liked coins better and started collecting again.
About 15 years ago; I was just starting my career, in the corporate world, after doing an internship, and graduating from the University about a year before that. I wasn't even thinking about Walkers.

Pretty much the same thing as today, just 15 years older.
15 years ago, the kids were ages 15, 12.5, 10.5 .
Sometimes they would go with me to the local coin club, to scoop up the youth prize.
I was mostly climbing a lot in Yosemite.
Fifteen years ago I retired.
Every year now from mid April to mid November living the dream golfing every day.
That's my real passion.

I was living on the beach and surfing in Puerto Rico. I was Park Superintendent for the National Park Service at the 2 oldest Forts in the New World and enjoying the Puerto Rican food and culture.

15 years ago I bought and moved into the family farm house where I was born and raised. As were my father and grandfather.
Kids were in 8th and 3rd grades.
Was into the fifth year of my collecting renaissance.
Otherwise I had my head down and was working just trying to stay afloat.

15 years ago was the first month of my deployment to the Middle East. I didn't get into numismatics until a year and a half later.

Fifteen years ago.....I got married and was still five years away from retirement...Working in the PNW and lots of travel. Coins have always been a part of my life....sometimes more focused than others...Even then I was here on the forum though...Cheers, RickO
15 years ago...I was just getting started on my impressive collection of ex-wives.
Should I get them slabbed?
Fifteen years ago, wow my kids were 16 and 14 years old in high school. Today they are both graduated college, married and we have been made grandparents. My Father was still alive along with my mother in law. My dog that we just put down as a thirteen year old was still two years from being born.
I had just bought my basket case 1964 GTO which I restored and have been driving since 2007.
My coin collecting was at a twenty year standstill, money was hard to come by without indulging that hobby.
Now I feel old 😄
I was Geocaching around that same time as well. My best find was a double DVD of Queen live(just watched some of it recently actually). I used to leave lots of 90% silver, uncirculated State quarter rolls and modern mint sets for people. I have often wondered if anyone became interested in numismatics as a result...or if any of it is still where I left them! Lol
I left a lot of $2 bills. They seemed to be a big hit. Did lots of caches in Western NC.
I used to mountain bike in Bryson City and Brevard back in the mid 90s. And have done a bunch of different day hikes on many sections of the AT in WNC. There used to be a coin shop in Franklin and a couple of "antique" malls that offered coins, but I don't know if they are still open or not.
......... chasing my dream
Fifteen years ago I was married for 15 years, two kids, process of adopting two. Lived in Pismo Beach, CA. Surfed frigid water. I lurked here another year before becoming a regular. Flew 727’s in South America for a tiny little company out of Memphis. ;-) Now, married 30 years, 4 kids, live in HI, surf warm water year ‘round, never banned by PCGS, half dozen or so gold registry sets, and fly 777’s for that same lil company out of Memphis. Shoots, looking at it all in writing, I be one kine blessed. Thank ya Jesus! Cheeewhoo!
15 years ago, my oldest son was fighting in Iraq.
We happen to be of the age that lines up to the US's wars. My grandfather was gassed in WW1, my dad was a POW in Yugoslavia, I was an Infantryman during the Vietnam conflict (but was sent to Korea instead) and my son wound up in Iraq.
Fifteen years ago my wife and I had been married just four years. We had a beautiful baby girl. We were getting used to winter again, having only just moved home to Vermont after fifteen years away. I was getting back into collecting; I got very sick that winter, and spent a lot of the time I was laid up going through the collection my dad had built in the 80's and selling off 85% or so of it.
