How long before we'll see numbered (1/10,000) or just sequentially numbered U.S. coins.

I'm thinking that it's bound to happen and a Commemorative is the likely candidate.
Can you imagine the clamor for the lowest numbers or any funky number combinations like the currency guys like to chase.
Maybe there would be star coins to replace the damaged ones, lol.
The numbers could be on the face or put on the edge.
I could see the numbering being like my example but I think sequentially numbered like serial numbers would be more fun.
I know it's gimmicky.
Without checking, Ill ask if there are any gov't issued coins that are numbered.
My friend gave me this coin last weekend.
It isn't something that I would have purchased but I appreciate the thoughtfulness and actually like it.
This is what got me thinking about numbering.
It's one of those Cook Islands minted coins. $5 face value.
Ignore the coin subject if you can. It's all about the numbers.

Can you imagine being numbered through x of 20,000,000 lol.
Not sure what the mint has in place that could engrave/laser or stamp after the coin in minted, but I can see it maybe on a limited edition type of coin, might be cool.

Numbering coins (perhaps in a commemorative series) would certainly gain some collector interest... however, I do not think the mint will do this now.... volume is the key, and this would entail a separate process (i.e. laser, stamping)....Cheers, RickO
Oh, lord ... another gimmick.
Post Mint Damage. Only worth bullion value now.

@JBK Post Mint Damage. Only worth bullion value now.
What if it had not left the mint yet, when this was done. Hmmmm. Still PMD but Present Mint Damage.

That is a technicality, but then it would be Post Strike Damage. I hate it when someone messes with a perfectly good coin.

I can't put into words how I feel about this!
They could be struck with a raised oval area for ...oh....whatever...

Suuuuurrre --- Let's do that on one-cent coins --- and in Roman numerals.
I think one of the tv show shysters does that with some of the coins on the slabs. I think its useless to do that. fwiw in this case
Numbering didn't help a lot of Franklin Mint "stuff" from hitting the melting pot.

Who'd put Roman numerals on a coin?
I dunno. We've been numbering our currency for a long, long time. Why not our coins too?
