Now both are common dates. Circulated and more then likely cleaned up a bit.
I am not being harsh but I would have only paid melt plus a small premium.
But even with that said... gold is gold. I like gold and especially half eagles in any condition.
+1 and to add the 1906 looks to be more harshly cleaned than the 1881
Fun coins with a bit in gold
11.5$ Southern Dollars, The little “Big Easy” set
Gold coins are nice... those look to have been cleaned... so, if you paid near melt for them, then it is a good deal...Cheers, RickO
Gold is fun. Congrats on the newps!
My favorite !!!
I hope you didn't pay much over melt as they appear to be strictly a bullion buy with gold at the current price level.
I like them! I think the lighting you are using is a bit harsh, which makes them more cleaned than they probably are. Gold is addictive, be careful! lol
Nice!

And all that glitters...gold is gold! I'm sure they look better in hand, even tho your pics are very clear (better than most starting out!). Try some different lighting angles. Congratulations on your FIRSTs (of many).
These are the types of coins I wish I would have bought when gold was cheaper and collected rolls of them. How cool would it be to have 3 or 4 rolls of circulated half eagles? Naturally I would buy close to melt and cleaned does not really matter when i want cool bullion.
Nice circulated & cleaned "bullion" coins. I prefer B.U. or proof bullion rounds with a similar markup over spot. BTW, I do not collect coins.
Congratulations on your first gold, they are fun ones to have. I do collect coins, how do they fit into the rest of your coins? Meaning, did you get them as type coins, as gold bullion, or do you intend to build a set of half eagles?

Congratulations!
These were a local purchase.
Normally, I buy raw UNC Morgans and Peace Dollars and Proof sets from the gentleman.
They have graded anywhere from MS63 up to MS66
The gold was bought higher than melt and a bit below Ebay raw finished sale prices.
Luckily there seems to be a 1961 Washington Proof DDO within the proof sets.
Really doesn't look near this bad in hand.
I saw the cleaning and pointed it out and negotiated down.
Sometimes, I should just say no and pass... or melt or pass
When I look back at the $1200 in purchases since the start of the year, I can single out about some decisions that cost money.
Tuition paid.
Thanks again for the advice and honest opinion as it will help me in the future.
