Still Out There, What Would You Like To Find?

Texas Collector finds rare JR-10 1829 capped bust dime, with curled base 2 in a bulk lot of dimes purchased off of E-Bay and a Canadian collector finds a 1798 Draped Bust cent Sheldon NC-2. They are still out there what would you "Love" to find?

I'm still hoping for a 42 over 1 mercury dime... also a scarface Morgan vam would be cool.

There are several I would enjoy finding.
These have so far eluded me:
1970-S Proof Lincoln DDO die 3
1970-S Proof Lincoln TDO die 7
1972 Lincoln Cent DDO die 4 ( although I found one in the mid 1980s in high grade circ. but sold it too cheaply not knowing how rare it was)
1963-D Lincoln Cent DDO Die 1
(Not tough but I just have not picked one yet)

    1983 copper 1c

....and I still think a 1970-S 1c business strike may exist with large/small date, although by now the vast majority of surviving unc. 70-S coins have likely been searched)

I met a very personable young man at a coin show many years ago who had a few binder pages filled of 42 and '42-D overdates. I asked him how he found so many and he just said he looked through a lot of dimes. I can't imagine searching so many since I've looked through thousands and never found one. It's a tough job looking too since there are so many '42's and a few '43 and '45's can be mistaken for them.

Mine would have to be just one of either a 16 overdate or a 18 over 17 Buff, but has anyone every seen a digit under the 7 on a 1917-D buffalo? Just wondering because there is! Take a extra close look at your coins, you may be surprised, but remember who told you...

1916 doubled die Buff. I've cherried all the major varieties in the series except that one and the 1915 DDO-001.

The problem with unique coins is that once they're found, that's all we get...

edited to add: there could be a copper 8-Unit Nova Constellatio pattern somewhere, as there were plans to make the denomination.

    1969-S DDO Lincoln Cent.
Obviously any example would do, but to find a fresh red BU one in the middle of an original roll would be even better!

I think there is another 1795 half dollar die marriage out there somewhere. None have been discovered since Beistle's 1929 book on half dollars.

There's a very real chance that a $100 (or higher denomination) Lettered Edge Humbert slug exists somewhere - it would look like a regular slug from the front, but would be twice as thick, and would be stamped 100.

Imagine digging up one of those!

    I love that coin!

A trio of gem BU 1860-s Quarters in the bottom dust shelf of an Empire dresser purchased at a flea market for $200.
    That’d do it.

There's find, and then there's find at face value in change.

Of the former, in the realm of something I might afford, a nice Cameo Proof 1937 Buffalo.

Of the latter, the only ones that seem to have some potential for actually finding are some of the Lincoln Memorial DDO/DDR or the 1992 close AM.

A circulated 1894-S Barber dime. Would love to have a completely complete set. I believe there’s still at least one somewhere out there in the wild, waiting in a jar or an old cigar box. In any event, there’s a higher likelihood of that than there is of me ponying up $2M the next time one comes up for auction.

Any of the 3 1827 bust half die marriages that I still need...137, 148, or 149.

Just because I'm old doesn't mean I don't love to look at a pretty bust.

I would like to find the '55 DDO cent and the 1919 DDO dime
....I look for those two all the time.... One never knows what could turn up in change, at a yard sale, an antique shop or a flea market. Cheers, RickO

1875-P Trade Dollar with a Chop. 78-CC is also key but is commonly known as the key of the series and would never be cheap. The 75-P is just as, if not more, rare with a chop, but is not commonly considered a particularly desirable date in the series to those that don't collect Trades. Maybe someday.

Those would be nice but I’m looking for the O150.

Q: When does a collector become a numismatist?

A: The year they spend more on their library than their coin collection.

One of the cool things about the coins I collect is that there are at least a dozen unknown to R-8 coins that I've never had the opportunity to buy. I know that some of them will come up at some point, and I know they won't be impossibly expensive to buy. It's just a matter of staying focused and staying alive.
