Estate Sale Box

So this weekend I got a box at an estate sale that looked like stuff from Grandpa's dresser drawer. It had zippo lighters, local campaign buttons, a light meter, tie clips and the auctioneer said two rolls of pennies as he looked down in the small box. Bought the box for $7.50 and went home to inspect my treasures. The first roll of pennies was a 1969-S bank roll never opened. Nice. The second roll was labeled 1919-S and was obviously put together by just someone sorting their wheat pennies. Most of the pennies were just as you would expect, in good to fine condition. Then I found this one in the roll. Wow I did not expect that. I was initially just wanted the zippo lighters, but goes to show they are still out there to find folks. Always nice to get one that is better than the one you currently have. Coin collector's schwing. :-)

The dates of 1969 and 1919 may have some significance to the Estate... maybe grandpa’s birthday and first grandchild?
Wonderful find @CaptMorgans.

That is a nice penny.
First post I've seen where an OBW roll of 69-S cents took a back seat to another roll.
Maybe 1919 was a birth year and the 1969 was a 50 year gift what would be a really cool gift to you if one of the 1969-S was a double die obverse at the date and mintmark. Nice haul anyway you look at it.
A beautiful find! Congratulations.
I like that copper alloy mix exergue patina thing. Great find. It's always a great to be able to go through an old roll. Peace Roy

Did not even think about the fifty year difference in rolls, but it could very well be significant years to the individual.
I need to start going to estate sales

That is a nice find.... Those 'junk boxes' can turn up interesting items from time to time. I have to start attending the local weekly auction shop... I went a couple of times and there were coins... nothing of significance, but still, one never knows what will turn up. Cheers, RickO
