What company made this old time holder?

davewesendavewesen Posts: 6,921 ✭✭✭✭✭

I have seen pages of this holder before but am not sure who made them. Does anyone remember buying them and what company made them? The pages are 'black simulated leather' over cardboard with slides on both sides. They are similar in ways (but different) to what I have seen from Bigelow, Wayte Raymond, and Megrig. I am wondering if maybe Beistle ?

I've been involved in the coin hobby since 1961 and I don't recall ever seeing one of those before. If you have access to early copies of Numismatic Scrapbook Magazine (published from 1935 until 1976) you will probably be able to find an advertisement for them.

That is a new one for me as well... but I like it.... I would pick a couple of them up if I saw them. Cheers, RickO

Task 1, find a bunch of magazines published 40-80 years ago.
Task 2, find an ad in same magazines for some obscure coin folder.

I do not recall ever seeing it before. Please do bring it to the attention of Mr. Lange.

Is it in rough shape? It looks as if the binding is taped up. Since the first page has 1960 printed on it, I would assume it's from the 1950's. It has that late 50's Megrhig look to it.

The top page I won and is in good shape, the tape around the page edges are as made with the 2 rivet holes going through the tape and holder with printing on the tape.

The second and third picture are from an auction I was underbidder on. There are 6 pages with 1958 through 1963 with printing on tape. Not sure what condition the cover is, I blacked out the auction company/lot sticker.

I will post ATS in next couple days.

It's a nice handy storage medium for displaying mint sets, and cool looking to boot!

The fact that it's dated puts it in that year range as to when it was made. Can't be a whole lot of them around if peeps here don't recognize it.

Mr. Lange informs me that the holder was by a company called Bigelow. You can find it on his website here:
