    Very nice dollar. Though it does not feature the classic grey toning yours does, here is mine in 40. The silver dollars are the prettiest coin of the type IMHO when you can find them nice.

    Tons of nice coins in this thread! I started working on the Seated Liberty halves as a side when I couldn't find stuff for my Capped Bust half series. Alas, that side has turned into a full blown set in progress! Like others have said, these coins are very tough to find in decent, attractive condition. Last time I checked, I'm #8 in the basic Seated halves set registry. If you want to look at them, click on my registry link in my sig line and look for that series.

    Yes, the 1839-o half dime just above is V-5, MS-64.
    It's easy to recognize Gerry Fortin's photo style and look it up on his sales archive.

    Plus I agree with his V-5 attribution - the obverse and reverse cracks are unique to V-5.

    Just picked this one up at the post office this morning. Saw it at the NH coin and currency expo and knew I had to have it!
    Had to sell some other coins and save for about a month to pay for it. But it is completely worth every penny.

    Since you wrote V-2, this suggests you are using Valentine's 1931 book, where he only listed 2 die marriages (and V-2 had the smaller mint mark of the 2).
    It was also described as a V-2 medium O by Heritage in the Gardner sale, so the size difference is somewhat tricky.
    Bill Harmon wrote an excellent article in 1993 where he described 8 die marriages.

    Here's a comparison of the 1848-O mint mark sizes; photos from PCGS CoinFacts and Heritage Auctions.

    I've seen 13 different V-4 coins in auction photos from the past 10 years, so I estimate it to be R-4 on the Sheldon scale.

    Most of the high grade 1848-o coins are V-4, though, and they have a relatively high turnover, appearing 31 times at auction in the past 13 years.
    Rarity was the one thing left out of Harmon's article, because at the time there were no large online photo archives to count.

    All 13 coins appear to be V-4A, including the crack ES to O which you described.
    So I suppose the V-4 uncracked and the V-4B with cud above ME are R-7 or R-8.
