I know I learn a lot more coin stuff on the site than share.

Some great minds reside here.

I'm always picking up new stuff here, but it's more important to me to try to share what I know (or think I know).

Net recipient. A lot to learn and each time I learn something new I end up going off on some weird tangent that are even more eye opening.

Well, many provide opinions, some provide observations, some provide facts....I try to provide a little of each when possible, but there is no way any one person is providing more than the forum as a whole, so color me net recipient.

Well I read far more threads than I post so I guess that would put me in the Net recipient camp. I typically pickup "something" reading thru the posts of the day. My favorite threads are often GTG... A good test (not great) of grading skills. It's eye opening by the range of guesses and comments.

Usually a provider, but I have learned a lot here too. B)

Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

I am a net recipient.... I am always looking for new information....been a lifelong habit. Whatever I become involved in, I seek knowledgeable sources so I can learn more. I do contribute when I can... The coin hobby is so diverse, with different coins, metals, mints, grading, errors, varieties, history etc., etc.,.... No one knows everything and never will. That is one of the aspects that make the hobby so interesting. Cheers, RickO

    Would say 2 way street.

There are a lot of things learned / picked up info on here.

As far as any net balance - clueless. Most likely in favor of info gained here.

    Recipient for sure.

Reminds me of Christmas. I remember having the thought when I went from being a net recipient at Christmas to being a net giver. Being the giver is definitely better.

I came here three months ago to learn information and the culture. And that is working. I am too green to contribute new knowledge. The best I have to offer is the perspective of a newcomer trying to learn the rules, values, and culture of today's coin collecting - and the journey of trying to discover what he values for himself.

My strategy is about collecting what I intend to keep, not investing in what I plan to sell.

I am no doubt a net recipient but by being willing to receive information I am providing others who have knowledge the opportunity to share it.

Anyone can learn, and if someone sees themselves as solely a provider and never a recipient then they have become boring and might as well change their name to Google or Siri.

Net recipient - but isn't that the point? With few exceptions, an individual can't match the knowledge of a group. But contribute what you can and we should all benefit.

  • BryceMBryceM Posts: 11,857 ✭✭✭✭✭

In general, I'm a net consumer of knowledge and the collective wisdom of the group, but I try to contribute where I can. Mostly this consists of eye-candy photos and what I know about a couple of series.

  • AUandAGAUandAG Posts: 24,933 ✭✭✭✭✭

Since collecting coins is such a diverse hobby, I suspect that most learn more than they teach. I'm always learning on this forum about coins and things I never dreamt. I hope I do add to your knowledge from time to time just as you add to mine.

I learn from everyone but the half dime guys have given me quite an education. I am thankful to all.

I'm a little on the shy side about sharing because I know there's people with expertise far, far beyond me who will chime in and expand on the matter better than I can.

Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.

Got two eyes and two ears, to go with my two sides. Only one mouth. Unfortunately I can't help these ten fingers from thinking aloud. I like to think reading and hearing teaches me way more than my mouth and hands teach others.

A humble recipient. I have learned a lot here and appreciate you all. Every time I think I have something profound to contribute, I read through the comments and see that someone has already offered the same information, so I just give them a Like or an Agree and move along.
