What’s your “side collection” of coins, if any?

My main collection is gold, and I am working on a complete type set.
Unfortunately I spent years building our new house, and I wanted no payments, so it was a large cash deal. That is all clear now, but I ended up having more daughters 😝
So when I am “bored” I am picking up nickels like crazy. I’m not sure why but I like liberty and shield nickels.
What’s your secret side collection?
Here’s my favorite liberty and shield nickel proof:

Early Canadian trade tokens....though I have not looked at them or added any in years.
19th century presidential campaign tokens.
At least one coin for each British king or queen. I have been having a lot of fun writing a “bullet book” with the history of each monarch. I posted one version here, but it’s in constant revision.
For myself, I currently am focusing on completing 20th century sets, and so far I have not strayed from that objective. If I have a "side" activity, it is working with my grandson and niece (both in grade school) getting them started with Lincolns. That might not be an impressive side collection, but it's planting seeds as my dad did with me.
My strategy is about collecting what I intend to keep, not investing in what I plan to sell.
Half dollars 1807-1829 capped bust graded 45, 50, or 55. One per year
I started a set of circulated trimes but quickly got bored with them.
Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.
Morgans
I am still upgrading my albums of Lincolns, Buffalo Nickels, Roosevelt Dimes, and US Type. I actually spend a lot of time with the latter since so many coins could potentially belong so I'm not sure that quite qualifies as a side collection.
My primary focus is Lincoln Cents. Definitely a side interest in Sacagawea's.

I collect old gold, silver dollars and old proofs. With an occasional venture into nickels, such as:
Saints but I really like these....

My Saint Set
Working on a US type set 1793-2000 with major & minor varieties.
92% complete, need a dozen very tough coins, we all know the ones: 1793 copper, 1796 silver, 1795 gold. High relief saint, $4 stellas. $50 pan pacs.
Not so secret, but side project is currently draped bust quarters and halves by die variety and die state, and select colonials & territorials. Also slow going..
Have idle sets of Franklins, Washingtons, Peace dollars & Ikes, indians & Lincolns, Jeffersons & buffalos, a near complete Galkery mint set, some ancients, and bags of foreign.
Liberty: Parent of Science & Industry
What is the link to your set, @Bailey ?
I have a nice Stella, eyeing legends pan pac round they have up. But FUN around the corner makes it hard.

My main squeeze is a US type set in PCGS dress,
my side collection(s) would be:
a Philippines type set (whitman album)
a Canadian large cent set (Whitman album)
Ancients in plastic (this is a pretty new direction for me, so I don't know what the limiting parameters will be
My side collection is not coins..... Cheers, RickO

Side collection.
I'll start with the smaller calibers, a couple of 22's and work my way up to a 458 if there's any interest.
These are only ~50 years old so they are almost new when compared to my coins.
Psychedelic Rock Posters
from the Avalon and Flilmore
concert halls.
I owned a large collection of this stuff. Was mostly Pink Floyd. Good stuff.
My Type Set & My Complete Proof Nickel Set!
Neutron Irradiated DImes and Exonumia.
I started a thread on them here: https://forums.collectors.com/discussion/996634/irradiated-dimes-what-are-they-and-are-they-collectible-photos-updated#latest
Non numismatic interests include Breitling watches and firearms.
“In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock." - Thomas Jefferson
My digital cameo album 1950-64 Cameos - take a look!
I'm accumulating Lincoln RPM's. Trying to get all the CONECA varieties. Cheap and fun.
1666-dated coins.
...and a couple other side collections.
No side collection of coins.
I do collect (and read) paperback novels of Clyde Cussler.
Easy reads, good cast of characters and fun story lines (history in the background; with current day events portrayed on a global scale; plenty of fact paced action; good guys; bad guys; in between guys; and much "daring do").
Alternative collecting interest... probably antique clocks and pocketwatches.
Side interest in current coin collection. .. probably Morgan Dollar Date set, Middle Date Large Cents, and Lincoln Cents
Successful BST transactions with: SilverEagles92; Ahrensdad; Smitty; GregHansen; Lablade; Mercury10c; copperflopper; whatsup; KISHU1; scrapman1077, crispy, canadanz, smallchange, robkool, Mission16, ranshdow, ibzman350, Fallguy, Collectorcoins, SurfinxHI, jwitten, Walkerguy21D, dsessom.
I have posted these before. Its my Raw Capitol Plastic set. I like the "original" style holders. I have bought the older ones and scratch the dates off in order to add cents beyond the 1970's to date. These photos are not up to date, but you get the idea. You can actually see the collection at one time instead of dragging out blue boxes...
My side collection consists of Dansco sets of Washington quarters, Kennedy halves, and Sacajawea dollars.
Austria 25 Euros silver/niobium bimetallics begun in 2003, and 1936 Commemorative Half Dollars in PCGS Doily holders.
Toys, Guns, knives, bonsai
Toys are the most fun. Bonsai is in the respect that the fun is in the working on them.
My firearm collection....That really is not a 'side collection'... More like a major focus... in my case, coins and knives would be side collections....Then of course come decks of old playing cards, marbles and challenge coins....Probably a couple more collections as well.
Cheers, RickO
I have a box of 20 ANACS / ICG coins not really worth even thinking of paying crossover cost but nice coins.
@WaterSport
Awesome display of Lincolns!
Probably 20th century type and encased cents...

Main set is gold type.

Also I kinda collect JM and Engelhard bars by type. (side collection)

I have quite a few popouts - Not sure just yet if I collect them but I do have half a dozen.

I used to collect old bolt action ed military rifles... WWII vintage and before. I only have one left... an all original (except bolt shroud) Remington M1903a3...

@lkenefic... Nice ..... mine are all more modern - handguns, rifles and shotguns... a lot of them... Cheers, RickO
I have a few side sets of incomplete planchets as well but they're too close to my main theme to count for this thread.
Lately I have been poking around for world varieties, and I still get the occasional urge to search eBay for better CPG varieties. There are also a couple of CWTs that I look for by die state, not sure how that started but I probably have enough now to call them a "collection" too.

Small size (1/4 oz or so) foreign gold from as many different countries as possible at or near melt.
Outside of coins I collect playing cards with advertising, old Coke Back National Geographic magazines, California Raisins, world globes..... the list goes on.
it's crackers to slip a rozzer the dropsy in snide
The only way I could be more surprised by this would be if Bill Jones had posted it!
AKA Pakasmom
Some good stuff here! Didn’t think I’d get so many responses.
Outside of coins I don’t collect much of any one thing, but have a lot of smaller collections (e.g 10-100 nice items, depending on size and price). Cars take up a lot of room. 😝
My Type Set & My Complete Proof Nickel Set!
Circulated Morgan and Peace Dollars, Large Cents, and Foreign Silver at the moment. When I get sick of them, I just sell them and pick another series that is interesting to me at that time. This has always kept me interested in collecting over the years and allowed me to focus on an eclectic mix of different types. At one time or another I have done most U.S. coinage.
@Traz look at this cool PCGS PR 64 1883 no cents nickel proof

@Traz I have a PR 64 PCGS no cents nickle

My "side" collecting has evolved into Charlotte Half Eagles. When I first joined the boards, it was my primary interest, until I got bit by the early gold (early Turban & Capped Bust gold) bug. When it first bit, I had an almost complete set of Charlotte gold - $1 thru $5's. I sold many of them, particularly the $1 and $2 1/2's, with several of my HEs also being let go. I've been slowly building the HE collection back up, and plug a hole every now and then. Here are a couple of the most recent additions.

Civil war tokens-like this one.
I also go from 22 (Colt Woodsman), then through .454, 475 Linebaugh and .500 S&W- just handguns.
