Our host didn't like my half dime

Purchased several years ago because I liked the toning. She was entombed, put away and forgotten.
Should I keep her or not?

Do you like it? If so, then I would keep it.

What’s the problem? Is the grade too low for you, or did they nick you with a “details” grade? It has too many marks to grade MS-65.
Hard to tell from the pics. Cleaned?
Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.
Looks cleaned and AT
Cleaned and retoned. Dump it.
That's a bit disappointing, gradewise, but I would keep the coin as long as I had money for donuts & coffee tomorrow.
AT, looks like the typical ebay ziplock hardboiled egg special. Crack, dip and dump.
The whole worlds off its rocker, buy Gold™.

Wooooha! Did someone just say it's officially "TACO™" Tuesday????
I’d forget about the “dip” part. That will make it look dull and worse.
I can see that. Blue is tough.
Wonder how the new president will affect grades?
Just for the photos it appears to be correct. After all, you asked for their opinion.
Hang on to it for a year or two. See what you think then
I had a half dime like this when I was a young collector (circa 1966) that Gimbals graded “Unc” (MS-60). A “dip crazy” friend of mine dipped it, and it came out terrible. Leave it alone.
I got one of those on a real pretty and correctly (IMHOP) colored 1909 Lincoln Matte Proof. It came back in a body bag with the notation PR-63, Questionable Color.
Sometimes ya gotta throw in the hook even if the bait is bad.

I too think it was cleaned... But the toning might very well be secondary as in re-toned not intentional AT.
Would rather see Cleaned on the Details Label.
As if it's a toning issue they might as well call 90% of the pre 1840 silver secondary toned silver coins questionable.

Yeah don't dip that coin, as the obverse looks harsh even toned...
Dipped this will look like major royal arse.
There was a hair care product for sale called "Dippety Doo".
DEFINITELY stay away from that one.

You seem predisposed to part with the coin. If so, do it... you will never be happy looking at it in that slab. That being said, do not be surprised if it shows up later in a slab with a straight grade... happens you know...
Cheers, RickO
I tend to agree with them. Toned to cover a cleaning.
I believe the dark toning is hiding a myriad of scratches from an old cleaning. I would part with it, but only your opinion matters as to its disposition.
The glossy obverse was a red flag for me even before the reveal. My initial thought was cleaned and retoned. Rather than using the questionable color code, I had expected it to receive the cleaning (92) code instead. I agree with AU details.
Would look a lot better in a flip
-or a type set album- than that slab.

CRACK IT OUT, DO NOT DIP IT and sell it or trade it RAW! The only things I can say nice about your coin is that it is silver and still round.
PS Any TPGS that straight grades this coin (even if dipped)...
I think blitzy is a dip salesman.
That would still look good in a Dansco album.
Collector, occasional seller
Some seller on ebay could rave about it and find a sucker: "PQ+++, rainbow gem stunner!!!!"
Haha, I wish. Oh how I do love my Weimans instant tarnish remover though. A hundred years worth of crud gone in mere seconds.

Torch/open flame toning. PCGS sets the bar for identifying fake toning.
Don't feel bad; I had a 74 and 75 CC Trade dollars our host didn't like either. Details! Argh!
Years ago at a coin show, a dealer showed me some Buffalo and Jefferson nickels in a couple of grayish coin folders. he said, some were nice and sent a few in to get graded and some came back AT and others had graded straight. He showed me those coins as well. I believed the guy and bought 2-3 from the folder. So yeah......I have a couple of blue tone coins but they're more light blue than a darker blue. I know I don't like the neon blue I saw in ANACS holders in the 1990's and they had those correctly labeled AT.

The more qualities observed in a coin, the more desirable that coin becomes!
My Jefferson Nickel Collection
If it has luster - dripping, keep it. If it is flat and dull - discard.
The Horror the Horror.......
Baley's right... it would look better cracked and put in an album.
