RIP George Herbert Walker Bush, 41st President of the United States

TomBTomB Posts: 22,097 ✭✭✭✭✭

George HW Bush died a few hours ago and he always struck me as someone with tremendous personal integrity and character. I don't know what the legislation is for the Presidential dollar coin series so I do not know if he will appear on such a coin, but I have included George Washington instead-

A great man. Congress could add him to the dollar series. I hope they will.

He struck me as a very friendly gentlemanly sort, and he clearly benefited from the blueblood background. My uncle, also a Navy man, served with him at one point in the CIA and foreign service.

I met and shook his hand. Nice man and I recall that he was a big guy especially for a military pilot. Sad to hear he passed.

A great man, father, husband, and President. I had the opportunity to attend his inaugural; standing on the White House lawn. Great experience to say the least, Washington is a fascinating town with a lot of history.

    Rest in Peace!

A president like Reagan that I didn't care for while he was in office, but in reflection years later have come to have the greatest respect for.

He really did accomplish a lot for a one term president, and his legacy continues to remind people that politics does not always need to be so divisive.

George H.W. Bush was the first President that I served under in his entirety as Commander in Chief. It was a sad day when he lost re-election to Clinton in 1993. I was in Kuwait during that election...there many Kuwaiti's who were distraught when he was not reelected, and many were grateful that their country was liberated under his command. R.I.P.

Back in the early 2000’s I attended a race at Indy and had a chance to meet him. Maybe the 500....could have been an F1 ... not sure.
I was standing back near Gasoline Alley with my family when this gentleman in a suit came up to me and said “ Please don’t move, it will only be for for about five minutes.”
    I asked “ Is something wrong? “
He said, “No, the President is going to be here any minute,”
    “Right here in this spot.”
    I’m thinking the sitting President.
Then as soon as he got the words out of his mouth a light tan colored Lincoln Town car pulled up literally five feet from me and HWB stepped out and he walked right up to me and shook my hand and said “hello” and said “ nice to meet you, how are you today.” I was kind of star struck at this point. We made small talk , I had my right hand on his left shoulder and he was very friendly and nice.
The Secret Service then ushered him away......me in tow and we went over to some motor homes and he met with some race dignitaries.
I then stood in amazement and watched him meet and greet with them and then I watched him ride a Segway and have a great ole time doing so.
I had learned later that he was with his son, the President, that Fathers Day weekend riding Segways at I believe Camp David.
I got some great pictures of him riding the Segway and my family got some great pictures of him talking to me when he got out of the car.
    Very nice guy and personable.

Were you our Commander in Chief then? When did you start coin collecting hobby?
I am interested to know what you did during those 4 years in relation to coin collecting :)

@Paradisefound that apparently did not come out right...I was a lowly Enlisted aircraft inspector while G.H.W. Bush was Commander in Chief.

There is a great biography of 41 on PBS currently airing. Though I was a working adult during his time, I didn't know a lot of facts about him. I highly recommend the show, as I couldn't tear myself away from it.
