"Collecting Coins is a Strange Guilty Pleasure"

That's the quote from Jonathon Scott of Property Brothers, from a recent episode, talking to his brother Drew. He said he didn't know why he was so obsessed with coins. " It's actually kind of weird!" Drew replied, "They're COINS! It's not weird, coins are collectible, they're valuable, and I have one from Roman Times around 2000 years old!" Drew asked Jonathon what his strange guilty pleasure was. He simply said, "Making fun of you!"

It is also a somewhat lonely pleasure.
The very immediate/intimate family member (i.e. spouse) may know what one has but the vast majority will never know until one passes.
Therefore, this forum.
Yes it is. Given the current weak market, I doubt that I will get my money out of my collection. I could gotten it out with a lot of money to spare years ago, but not now. Still I’m having a lot of fun, and that’s the whole idea,
Coin collecting is certainly a pleasure (in my case)... however, I do not feel guilty about it...never have. If I felt guilty pursuing an interest or hobby, I would stop...Cheers, RickO
One "strange" aspect of this hobby that makes it somewhat lonely is that we condition ourselves not to be too public about it. I would love to display an array of coins on the wall for guests to look at and ask me about. However, the wisdom is to keep valuables locked up, or at least quietly hidden - and don't tell too many about the collection. One dealer tells me that his kids can't talk about it and even most close relatives have no idea of what he keeps locked up in his house.
In my other hobbies, people display their passion and proudly talk about it to anyone interested. In that way, this is a strange hobby.
My strategy is about collecting what I intend to keep, not investing in what I plan to sell.
My toys. They make me happy and that's what matters.
I wonder whether he collects seriously, or if it's just the odd ancient coin...

Just my 2 cent's Bill..........You have such an amazing collection I think you will do fine if not very well when

you sell......it just has to be in several years. Which is probably more than fine with you
I guess what I'm saying is I don't think you give yourself enough credit
