Major NEWP - Kohler Die Trial with Baldwin Horseman struck on 1844 cent - thank you Regulated!

Regulated shared this coin with me in August and I immediately started bugging him to give me a number.
I re-imaged the piece recently - I think it better represents the color and look of the coin.
It was in the Bass Pattern collection early 2008. There were so many pieces in that collection that were interesting that I concentrated on the Oregon pieces, not realizing how cool this piece was historically.
It resonates with me for several reasons:
- Earliest known use of the Horseman obverse that the Baldwin coins made so famous. Not sure if the period after the date was added after this use or if it's just poorly struck up - Regulated favors the latter.
- Only known use of the Kohler reverse die.
- Struck over a 1844 large cent - and I collect weird stuff struck over under types, mainly civil war tokens.
- Rare, likely unique - although the Bass catalog notes 2 are known, in further reflection by Don Kagin and research by Regulated, they feel that both sightings are of the same coin, so likely unique.
- Historical connection of Broderick and Kohler with other gold rush coins such as Baldwin, Miners Bank and others.
Here's a link to the article Dave wrote recently about the piece - shared last week by him and reposted for your convenience.
Thank you, DAVE !!!!

Someone thought so - purchased in a "junk lot" at Stacks in the 80's - wonder if there was a 1913 nickel in the same lot??

Intriguing to say the least. Great read from Coinweek on the subject!
That’s wild. My brain got bigger reading about it.
In that case, can you go back and re-read it a few more times?
