It looks like the area around the D may have some circulation marks/damage that may cause you to think you see something. As @Hemispherical has said, by 1997, the MM was no longer being hand punched into individual dies, so it's not possible for an OMM to occur on a small number of coins
I have another, not as bad doubling on the ear, but the same craziness on the mm.
I knew it was md, I just wanted your opinions on if it was rare on the '97s to have this abnormality is all.
Thanks for your words.

Plus, the mintmark looks like a P under the D
Mint stopped hand punching the die in 1991 for dimes.
Ok, still looks like a P under the D, looks almost inverted.
Typical machine doubling, not an error.
Agree.

Machine doubling and PMD.... No doubt the observed anomalies are there... just not what you think they are. Cheers, RickO
FYI:
When you post, perhaps mention what you see.
That helps us a lot
BHNC #203
Lots of machine doubling here. Look at the ear.
Ike Specialist
Finest Toned Ike I've Ever Seen, been looking since 1986
Thank you
Funny - the ear was what my eye was drawn to on the first (text-free) post. Didn't even look at the MM.
